Hmm - it is in Spain. I suspect that by the time they used the words Carlos Sainz they were welcomed with open arms. It isn't quite the same as invoking king Juan Carlos out there of course, but it isn't a million miles away from what I understand...

here It's nice quality but it's also just another Red Bull promo video isn't it? I'd rather be watching Carlos actually racing that thing.
It's a bit like the Ken Block Gymkhana videos... absolutely amazing car control but Block hasn't exactly set the world on fire with his WRC efforts has he? At least Carlos has won that...

I had never heard of the driver ( I know, immediate ripping of buttons from PH uniform, and drubbed out to the sound of snare drums), or the circuit. I was just amazed at how intact it is and how it looks quite possible to refurbish it. Imagine some vintage cars on the banking.........

Now herein lies the problem.Back in the twenties when Stiges and Brooklands were built, the crowd used to stand on the infield and look up at the cars. There was nothing to "retain" an accident within the circuit. (Youtube Clive Dunfee accident, brooklands.) Modern ovals place the track within the grandstands and the retaining walls do two jobs, 1 is to keep the accident within the track's boundaries, 2 is to mount the catch fencing on to keep debris out of the crowd.
How would you solve this problem?
I mean, personally I'm all for bulldozing the houses that lie on the Brooklands track and rebuilding it. Tesco can build a tunnel if they want access to the infield. I think that it's a crying shame that these tracks are to only stand as a monument, not to be used. But I can see that there would be massive issues about running cars there.

Brooklands is very similar in scale (2.75 vs. 2.66 miles) and banking angle (40 degrees maximum vs. 33 degrees maximum) to the Talladega Superspeedway in the USA. Due to the steeper banking the speeds would likely be higher at Brooklands with a decent track surface. It really wouldn't be safe.
Brooklands was virtually unuseable by 1939. It was built in 1907 with 1907 era concrete. To keep the track going it would have needed almost complete rebuilding and that would not have happened.
And don't forget, it was already an industrial site. Indeed, it always had been - as the track was mainly built for industrial testing as much as racing. There was an active airfield in the centre and a couple of factories on the site already.
WW2 finished it off completely.
