Should have left my details I know but how would I find the owner of a car from their reg plate. I watched someone hit a car while reverse parking so was wondering if there is a way to find out who owned the damaged vehicle.

Thanks,

Pest

The only thing you can do is give the details to the Police really.

If you passed the reg number to the owner of the vehicle that was hit, their Insurers of their Solicitors can apply to the DVLA for details of the registered keeper.

A sneaky phone camera picture doesn't hurt either...

Got a couple of photos too, think I might go back and leave my number if the car's still there.

I recently saw something similar. I took the drivers reg number, walked around until I found the owner of the car, spent half an hour filling in a police accident report a few days later, and didn't even get a 'Thank you'.

Car not there any longer so I guess that's that unless they go to the police.

Am I missing something here? Why not leave a note with your details saying you saw what happened and for the owner to get in touch with you?

I agree, as long as the offender doesn't know you've seen them, do a circuit and come back and destroy the note.

If I was wearing my tinfoil hat, maybe OP wants to find the keeper of a car for other, more nefarious purposes scratchchin

I did write a note but forgot to leave it, besides the owner of the other vehicle would have probably spotted it when she came out anyway. When I told her she'd just hit the other car she called me a lying little st... which was nice.

A couple of months back I saw a fat bh crash into the car next to her whilst trying to park. I pulled up next to her and told her she'd hit the car then drove off. She simply drove to the otherside of the car park!! I wrote a note with her reg saying I'd seen the bump and left it under the victims wiper.

Soon after it rained frown I never got a call

I came across a FTS accident the other day, looked across from the junction to see a car parked at the side of the road with an older gent examining the rear, and then a stey Astra nearly taking him out as it went around him. Instinctively took the reg and identified myself to the gent, who was very grateful.

I don't think he bothered reporting it in the end because I've had no further contact. Bit of a shame really because chavscum need to learn a lesson that it's not alright to hit and run!
