Stayed at the Houx last couple of years and again this year and the state of the toilets are discusting. Does anyone who lives in the area or who passes/visits regularly know if the toilet block has been condemned and a new one built. If not, I'm ordering a portable loo off eBay.

Bought a portapotti off ebay and a utility tent from gay-outdoors. £50 for the crapper and £20 for the tent.
Never having to see a pile of others poo - priceless.

The newer red coloured block at the far end of Houx (nearest the Ford Chicane) Isnt too bad. I find that with a bit of forward planning it's worth strolling down. Mind you, I am pitched right up by the other entrance this year so it might not be so practical!

This discussion reminds me why I don't camp anymore, and it is worth every penny!

To be fair the quality of the bogs has improved immensely in recent years since they outsourced the cleaning to Veolia rather than having random locals sit around and do nothing.

The permanent ancient building in the middle of the campsite is disgusting!

The portable cabines on the other hand are quite allright.

Yep, they are the ones I'm referring to. A hole in the ground to poop into standing up with my shorts round my knees trying not to plop into them having had a bottle of red and many bottles of beer.

Only once have I used the loos in that block and the experience still haunts me! You either squat and risk getting cramp or hover trying not to fall over or, as the Op said, try not to crap in your shorts!

It took me a few trips to Le Mans to relise the bogs in the portacabins were proper ones and not holes in the ground! It has saved me having to wonder off to carrefour or mcdonalds for a dump biggrin

Don't let them get to you! Just avoid the old concrete yellow building in the middle of the site (or maybe inspect it first, when matters are not urgent yet) and do your stuff in one of the portacabins, and you and the missus will be fine!
