I guess this is a bad warning notice? Went out last night and 2 mins after heading off, the engine management light came on with 'Go to dealer' showing. We continued the 40 mile drive there and back with the light glowing and no problems, in fact the car drove fine!

Is this going to cost me a lot? 156 GTA, 2004 with 93k on the clock. Had it since new and never really had a problem before...

Could be several things. Normally its something to do with either the thermostat or the battery. Really need to get it plugged in for diagnostics. Where are you based?

I'd pop over to alfaowner.com, and there is a dedicated GTA lounge.

I'm in Biggelswade, Beds. Nearest dealer is Marshalls in Welwyn now.

I have had some engine hesitation when cruising occasionally but otherwise it's fine.

If your in Bedfordshire, then autolusso isn't too far away I don't think. They have a Saturday surgery on each Saturday, where they do diagnostics for free. Might be worth a trip? Ned is the owner, and will help you out.

I had similar symptoms years ago - was rear lambda sensor. Needs the engine dropping fwd to get at, so at that mileage get the rear plugs changed too.

Might be a coil pack, or two, but best to get it diagnosed by someone who knows what they're doing.

good point - actually I think my garage checked the front coilpacks were ok and swapped them to the back at the same time ensuring dropping the engine fwd only had to be done once. Pretty sure it was the lambda tho.

Replace "go to dealer" with "go to specialist that knows what he's doing and save 50% into the bargain"
