Well, the love affair with the new (to me) Aero has hit a rough patch, driving home last night, stopped at a set of traffic lights and someone in their works van delivering dogs plowed into the back of me. She said she expected me to go through the lights rather than stop when it changed to amber (I was about 100yard from the lights, plenty of room for me to assess the road and stop in plenty of time. Braked firmly but not excessively) Guessing she floored it as I hit the brakes, because when I went on the brakes, she was at least 50 yards behind me, could have seen them change to amber in plenty time and my brake lights come on. The stupid cow wasn't paying attention or driving to the road and othe road users. Was on Corstorphine Road in Edinburgh, the crossroads at Western Corner heading west.

The 93 has held up pretty well I think considering how hard she hit me (enough to move me from stopped a few ft before the line into the crossroads, probably moved me about 10ft) I'm going to need a new rear bumper, the rear 3 quarter panels are creased where they've squashed a bit so need changed, the exhaust has been put out of place so looks like it's going to need some work and then take a look at the boot lid as I think it looks out of alignment.

Swapped details ok which is good and her boss turned up with the insurance document (for all that could be worth) so I got all his details aswell and logged them all with the police. Got plenty of pictures aswell. Waiting on a callback from claims dept. just now to get the ball rolling.

Can anyone recommend an excellent bodyshop in central Scotland? The car was totally immaculate, the bodywork didn't have a mark on it, so naturally I want it returned to this level. I know that their insurance is just going to pick out the cheapest garage they can find so I'm going to demand a garage of my choosing.

Anyone got any advice aswell as far as no claims goes. First accident so don't really know how it works. I've got 4 years but not protected, can I wave goodbye to those? I'm also expecting my premiums to go through the roof now with an accident on my record, even a non fault. My big worry is, the only reason I can afford to run the car is those no claims keeping my cost down just below £1k/year. Can I put a claim in for extra cost incurred through no fault of my own if I get my broker to quote next years price and claim for the extra cost?

Any help would be appreciated chaps. As you can understand, I'm absolutely gutted.

Quoted from their website - "Because you haven't contacted your Insurance Company to make a Claim against your Policy, your No Claims Bonus will not be affected and you will not have to pay an Excess Fee"

I thought that you had to declare any accident, Can someone confirm this?

I hate to be the prophet of doom old son, but your car will almost certainly be written off. If the wheel arches are creased, the boot floor and chassis legs will almost certainly be damaged along with the rear panel. This is considered to be serious structural damage, and due to the fact that SAAB are now out of the game the car is worth very little. Another thing you must check is that the turbo casing or exhaust manifold haven't been cracked due to the impact on your exhaust; many coachworks miss this.

On the plus side it is a third party, non-fault claim, so the other side has to place you in the position you were in immediately before the accident. If you are really keen on the car you could take a settlement payment and retain the salvage and repair it with second hand parts. It will be a CAT C or D write off however.

Stevie Walker is the man for this; utterly superb.

You can declare an accident without making a claim.

Agree with jith above, from your description that amount of damage on a 54 plate saab would make the car uneconomical to repair using new parts.

I would also rate Stevie Walkers in Bathgate, been using him for years, so you may want to retain the car and negiotiate a reasonable payout from the insurance co, then have the car repaired using second-hand and pattern parts.

It may just be simpler to take your payout and buy another vehicle rather than mess about getting yours repaired though.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Spoke to all the insurers today, phoned mine first and got eveything in place. Gave description of damage, told me it sounds moderate damage (phew!). Then ended up with Direct Line on the phone because the driver phoned them and claimed full responsibility so they were just ing to deal with it all insead of me laiming hrough my insurer aswell. Just got to get a quote now for the work as they were happy with me going with whoever I chose and would have a courtesy car waiting for me when I drop mine off.

Hope it's not a write off, had a good look in the daylight today, the crease of the 3 quarter panel isn't above the arches, slightly further back than that. The right sides is the most noticable, the lefts isn't as bad. Guess I'll see what the quotes are, I'd take a payout to be honest, the car feels totally fine to drive, nothing out of the ordinary. It's got such low miles and been so well looked after it was an incredible bagain in the first place. Plus I love it, wouldn' want to get rid of it afer 3 months.

I'll give that garage a look, thanks for the tip. It's just 10 minutes to bathgate for me aswell.

If you can be arsed going through to Kirkintilloch, McLarens are superb. Shame about your car though, particularly as it has been well looked after and cherished. Main thing is that you are OK though

Eastern Western at Broxburn.
They've done work for me on Porsche and Saab. Both were finished to perfection. I'm sure they're not the cheapest, but as its a third party paying you won't be worried about that. Also, as an approved Saab Bodyshop you've every right to insist on using them.

Good luck.
