Damaged or vandalised?

Discovered one of my front tyres looking like this a couple of days ago.

Now given that I've had the car two weeks and its my first with 18 inch wheels I've been absolutely paranoid about kerbs etc for fear of scuffing my wheels. I've also cleaned the car five (I know ) times since I bought it so I'm pretty sure it wasn't already like it.

I'd actually prefer that it was me that damaged the tyre somehow but I can't think how or when. Just wondered what peoples opinions were on whether this looks like deliberate damage?

If it was a intentional cut with a blade of some sort, the cut would in all likelyhood leave a neater/ straighter cut then that. Do you remember hitting any nasty potholes?

that. If a person slashed it wouldn't it look more neater? There is wear around that whole area, so you must have rubbed it against a curb and it tore.

Yeah, I think it's too ragged for someone to have done that with, say, a sharp instrument.

Yeah doesn't look like a clean enough of a cut to be a knife or similar.

I thought somebody would have said "Wife hates you. Cut your tyres. Probably playing away with the neighbour" by now.

I honestly don't remember hitting anything, kerbs, potholes, whatever. You know how paranoid you are with a new (used) car and I've been doubly cautious because of the low profile tyres.

But would much rather it was damage because if it were vandalism someone might do it again (and it's got new tyres now!) so that's a relief.

Indeed. The saving grace was that the front tyres were going to need replacing in the not too distant future anyway, so it just brought the change forward a bit.

That's why I'm relieved that the consensus is damage rather than deliberate.
