Had a 1/2 price MOT at the Nissan garage my son works at and the guy with my blessing gave it a thorough examination with me under there with him, (he had no cars waiting!).

Happily, even after spending an hour poking, levering and chatting the only thing wrong was slightly high emmisions, but somehow whistle it passed!

I mentioned my noisy rear diff bush that I had to replace today and he suggested that we confirmed that was the case.

He chocked the wheels and got my son to do the old forward reverse thing while it was in the air and after a few swift cluch take ups we found that the diff moved on its triangular brackets!

After a morning of "getting in" to the offending b*ggers and torquing them up, the clunk/clonk has gone smile.

They were probably tightened to about 30 lbs but they should have been 90-100lbs!!!

Worth checking first if anyone has a bit of clunking going on.
Don't forget the nuts on the back of the diff are locknuts so tightening them does nothing apart from locking the bolt to diff conection!

John, they are the pair of brackets that bolt to the front of the diff with 4 bolts.
