Whining noise when engine warm-V8 Vantage

Hi guys, i've noticed a whining noise after driving the car for about an hour!

I then opened the engine and noticed that the noise was non stop, and when i switched off the car that noise faded out (kind of like an old vinyl coming to a stop).

I've started the engine a couple of times after that and the noise was still there.


Any idea what it could be?

could be the accessory drive belt - very common, easy fix, about an hours labour and £70, warranty job if you have one

Dealer is about an hour from where i live! Is it safe to drive?

Have you checked your power steering fluid level?

Coolant ok, steering fluid ok, oil at mid level. Started the car today for 20 minutes, noise wasnt there!

If it's the belt the noise could be sensitive to temperature / humidity. Are the environmental conditions different today?

No, all the same. The only different thing is that yesterday i ve driven the car for 30-40 minutes and today ive just started the engine.

If the noise 'fades out' after the engine is stopped it's not the drive belt. Have you checked if the cooling fan is running? It will run after the engine has stopped if the coolant temperature is high enough.

Hi all! First time poster

I have a v8 vantage roadster, 2008, and when I started it from cold this morning there is a very loud "screeching" which seems to be coming from behind the instrument cluster.

It sounds like an electrical screech like an alarm sound that is slightly short circuiting as it isn't constant and fades in and out.

I have taken the can fr a spin and it comes and goes, even when stationary. Have tried fan though it doesnt seem to be a whining motor as there was no change, tried wipers etc and all ok.

Any ideas!?

Not sure what this would be, but suggest (as symptoms quite different to belts?) it would be worth starting a new thread so people notice and can help you out.

Sounds exactly like mine last year. Turns out it was the reversing sensor control box (in the boot) that had failed having let water in. It was a warranty fix for me.

I had the same problem. Found it was a problem with a seal on something. Dealer replaced it under warranty. Can't recall exactly what it was. It stops when the engine warms up because the metal expands with the heat. Perfectly safe to drive, just annoying.
