On a serious note, what's the chance of surviving if you where in there she the system activated? Looks like a good 10 to 12 feet of foam! We have a gas discharge system at work so I understand the risks involved with these type of systems.....

Takes 2 minutes to fill up like that, plenty of time, unless your trapped I guess. Then it's all over rover?

I think the important thing to keep in mind here is that the system worked, nothing burnt down. Admittedly nothing was on fire to begin with but it still shouldn't be discounted.

Article said 'more then 3ft' so either they were very small planes or that was a bit of an understatement! At least the system works. We had a fire training session at the office years ago using extinguishers taken from around the building (to be let off in the car park). A disturbing number of them failed to work despite having had regular maintenance checks.

I've heard that the powder used in some types of extinquisher can be corrosive to aluminium. Does the foam react with anything or is it totally inert?

Pah, when I was in the Forces the only thing we used BCF extinguishers for was freezing other peoples balls.

I thought as much. Our gas system has about a 1:30 hold off with verious HOLD button around in case you are trapped but cant get out. Still pretty risky using it even if you have done a manual sweep of the area...

Suprised this is an automatic system for safety reasons though. As said above ours used to have to be manualy set off if anyone was in the building. But then its militery and things are a little different! lol

Thats the thing with any fire supresion system, they dont get properly tested until its actually needed! I guess thats why civies (me) are always told "just get everyone one, forget the fire, let the experts deal with it".

Would it affect the jets, or do they just tow them out and jet wash them down?

They'd be no foam taken in, just surface wash I guess is all that' required, unless the canopies were open.

haha, not been to the Magaluf (or more comanly known as 'Sh*ag a sruf' locally) foam parties but have been to the ones in Ibiza. Still wouldn't want that over head hight! lol
