New Maserati 'Gransport' - 2015
Discussion
Its been discussed on the Ferrari, lambo, Maserati thread but thought I'd post it here as well incase some havnt heard. It was is EVO mag last mounth (cant remeber which issue),
2015 release (hopefully)
New Bi turbo engine or the current 4.7 V8
1100-1200kg
Mid engined
458 gearbox
Based on the Alfa Romeo 4c
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
It will be mighty impressive when it comes, to give a comparison it will be 180-280 kg lighter than a 458 and if it keeps the wieght closer 1100 than 1200 it will have a better power to wieght ratio (413 for the 458, the maserati should be around 427 if its 1100kg).
It will also replace the GT in the Maserati trofeo series as well, and I hope they will make a GT3 version as well!
Cant get a picture sadly but Maserati donsnt have a bad track record with styling do they!
I think it will be replacing GT (not sure need to route out the EVO), which will be a shame, as the GT seems to be the best grand tourer out from various reviews. But replacing a 1880kg GT car with a car lighter than a Ferrari challenge car is not going to get any objections from me!
(This Isnt NEW info just thought it would be a shame if people missed out if they dont follow the Ferrari Maserati thread)

I seem to recall that Maserati is working on a new generation of Quattroporte at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up as an optional 2-door 'Dueporte Granturismo' or suchlike.Twincam16 said:

I thought that Ferrari owned Maserati so that they were very unlikely to make a direct competitor for the F458.
Well there's the thing. When you look at it first it seems odd, but the cars are pretty different, the Gransport is set to be 1100kg, which is more than 300kg less than the 458. The 458 is more Sports rather than raw racer. Which is what the Gransport is meant to be, a GT3 rival made in a F40 fashion, start of as a racer for the road rather than sripping a sports car.
So perhaps Ferrari know their client base well enough that a road racer isnt going to make any 458 buyer go astray.
Plus numbers should be low enough not the hinder sales, 1500-2000 per year. So Fairly low key.
Personally I think this will be a real defining moment in Maserati's history, a real renaissance moment, back to those 50s-60s years, cars for racers and connoisseurs. GT's for swanning around in, Gransports for real driving. Pure cars, either racers or GTs.
I cant wait. As you may have guessed...
