Hi all

Does anyone have a learned opinion on what is the best oil for the 400SE engine? The previous owner used "Lucas 20W-50 Racing oil" but there are many different Lucas Racing Only oils, both mineral and fully synthetic.

It's a bit of a maze so any decent advice would be appreciated!

I gather the best filter is the big one with a NRV in it - can't remember the Pt No so any help here would be appreciated too!

Cheers

I'd always use fully synthetic oil. But the type comes down to the usage of the car for me, i personally favour Castrol edge 10w60.

I have asked this very question and the response from a fair few has been to recommend mineral Valvoline VR1 20w 50 racing oil.

I'm trying this next. I think a lot of modern, synthetic 'racing' oils can be a little too thin when hot making the engine sound like a bag of nails.........................

Just my opinion.

Always used Silkolene Pro-S myself but i think i am going to go down the VR1 route next time as everyone seems to recommend it.

Any old 20W-50 I can get my hands on. It's only a Rover V8, not a Rolls-Royce Olympus. I change it every year, which equates to less than 3000 miles anyway.

Always 15w40 in mine, and no bother over 30000 miles I've driven her...

I change every year and do less than 3k on an oil...
