Focus RS MK2? Yes or No?
Discussion
I just bought one 2 weeks ago, a green 11 plate with 7k on the clock. Went from a Skoda Octavia VRS that had been remapped and had been fitted with coilovers.
The focus, compared to the VRS, is huge amounts better. The VRS could shift, but the RS is SO much better in terms of smoothness, speed, sure-footed ness. Just feels so planted, bumps don't really seem to phase the car, even with 19" tyres with 35-profile tyres.
Not very practical when you have kids (I do, one, but she isn't in the car very often) and it returns approx 24mpg. Insurance was cheaper for the standard RS than my modified VRS.
Turning circle is pants and the backs of the seats mark just by looking at them.

Good all rounder, probably my favourite hot hatch. It would have better if it was awd as the fifth gear test vs the evo showed but nevertheless it's a practical and very quick car especially with basics mods. I'd only have one in blue though, the white and green are just a bit too chavy for my tastes.

Its a good all round car/ daily drive, but if its just a weekend toy get the mk1 as its sooo much better to drive but the mk2 is easierto drive and live with lol
I currently have a mk2 but used to have the mk1, love both of them but completly different cars imo....
Interesting mate, why in your opinion is the MK1 much better to drive?I currently have a mk2 but used to have the mk1, love both of them but completly different cars imo....

Do people like them or not?
It's just that I keep hearing comments that their ugly, fat and basically just an upgraded Focus ST
People's thoughts please?
I actually quite like these, for a modern hatch I think they look great, very aggressive with sporting overtones. I also love the green and blue colours available. It's just that I keep hearing comments that their ugly, fat and basically just an upgraded Focus ST

That said, for the money I think you've really really got to want one as there are so many other great cars available. As a family car it sort of fails due to less room in the back due to the huge front seats, but maybe it's still usable in this respect, but certainly less ideal than say a fast saloon car.
As a sports car, well while capable it is still a hatchback and FWD. If you have no need for 5 seats, large boot and blobby mpv styling, then I fail to see why you wouldn't be looking at cars like a 370z, z4 or Boxster.
I like them, but sort of fail to see why anyone would actually want to own one.

I had 5 rugby playing lads, plus all their kit in my FRS without much issue. That said, for the money I think you've really really got to want one as there are so many other great cars available. Also ignore anyone who has mentions FWD and not driven one...

What's the rear leg room like compared to an ST though? Also a 3 door maybe be less than ideal if you are using it as a family vehicle. Also ignore anyone who has mentions FWD and not driven one...
That said, I know fully well about getting people and stuff into vehicles. Regularly carried 4 people in a Jag XJ-S, although I'd hardly have called it ideal.
FWD is FWD. Good FWD is still FWD. This isn't a bad thing, but it isn't RWD and thusly will never offer up the merits that RWD has the potential to offer. For some this won't matter, for others it will.
Only driven the RS500, but I thought it was great.
Contrary to some reports there are slight problems with traction and torque steer, but only about the same as my 205 GTi delivered with all of 130 bhp. It's a properly quick car with nice steering, adjustable handling and a decent soundtrack. The interior is perhaps a bit ordinary, but overall it feels pretty special. I'd have one over a current shape Impreza without a doubt.
