Hi there, i have an 04 plate astra g 1.6 twinport sxi 3 door all irmscher'd up, it goes really well for a 1.6 but i just want it to have a bit more umph, my partner has a corsa c 1.8 SRI which has been superchipped and its a little flying machine. Will superchipping my astra make a noticable difference? its £300 to get it chipped so thought i would seek some advise. Cheers

No. A 1.8 corsa will of course be quicker than a 1.6 Astra irrespective of super chipping....

wont do a thing, pointless.

Sell your car and buy a quicker one, cheapest way.

It's a n/a car so no if you got a full exhaust system with manifold, induction and remap may gain 10 - 15bhp but would cost well over a grand just not worth it better saving up for a Astra VXR or a SRI Turbo model if you want more power smile

Depends on the set up by the specialist.

One Turbo man in Birmingham permanently has a queue outside his garage. Never heard of one complaint, all work is at owners risk and very substantial gains every time.

The engine specialist I use regularly up the power of the Duratec and Zetec engines by between 35 and 55 bhp all tested on rolling roads before and after. Again at customers risk. Zero complaints.

Reliability can be affected: but yes, with the right specialist, there are very substantial gains to be had.

Choose your man carefully.

35-55bhp from just a remap in a standard NA engine?! Sounds just a little optimistic...

I would like an SRI Turbo and could afford to run one but i dont have the heart to sell my astra as my uncle bought me it just before he suddenly died so its sentemental value to me really. If it cost like £200 to superchip it, id probs risk getting it done but £300 is a bit steep for a none turbo car.

Make deal with the engine you have then or drop a vxr turbo engine in would make more sense burning the money that spending hundreds trying to tune a 1.6 n/a astra to be honest...

Looks like a couple of the replies have confused super chipping with supercharging!

An ecu remap will likely give you an extra 5-10% which will definitely be noticeable.

Maybe on a turbo car. On a NA car you would be lucky to get 5 to 10 bhp, and that's on something with decent power to begin with.
On a 1.6 Astra you are wasting your money. I spent 3 years trying to get more power out of base model small engined cars and the only thing that made any of them faster was a good service.
Sorry, but I hate to see people waste money the way I did.

Sure, it's not what I'd do either, but the OP wants to keep their car and have more power. Superchips quote a realistic 6bhp increase on the OPs Astra (6%) - an oil and filter change would likely manage the same if not done for a while.

I know you've already said that you don't want to buy a new car, but trust me, £300 for 6bhp is money down the drain, you can swap it for a diesel Astra which has a turbo and superchip that, then trust me, that will be £300 well spent.

I can understand the sentimental value attributed to it.

Maybe you would rather keep the couple of hundred quid and spend that on a driving experience day :P

Actual bhp gain more than likely won't be huge, but it'll more than likely improve the throttle response and make it rev a bit higher and freer. See if anywhere will do a demo temporary map for you or take you out in a similar car with it done to see if you think it's worth doing smile

You wouldn't notice it. I barely noticed changing the entire exhaust system, including the manifolds, on my car. The dyno showed a 9bhp gain.

Assuming you weren't driving a 900bhp beast of a car then I can only imagine your senses are completely dead...
