Had the call my girlfriend has been stung near and in the eye twice by a bee over in spain...
(eyebrow and eyeball)
Uni friend saved her life noticing the warning signs of anaphylactic shock after she collapsed.
jumble of emotions right now but it was good to hear her voice..I'm shaking.

I understand gross swelling of the soft tissue around the eye and the eye itself is pressing on her optic nerve causing blindness in vision for both eyes...
Fingers crossed for continued improvement over the next few days..

Awful way to find out you are allergic to bea stings.

Who is Bea?

It will be two bees that stung her,not one.

Glad she's OK despite my mickey-taking..kind of late in life to discover she's allergic to bee stings isn't it? Is she allergic to anything else?

She is 20,allergic to garlick and chocolate... No previous problems with insect bites in the past. I'm just worried about her lack of vision at the moment...I just wish i was there at the time... It feels awful knowing she was in a Spanish hospital whilst I was at a friends party here frown

She will be issued with an epipen for future use.

It provides a shot of adrenaline to reverse the low blood pressure and spasming of the airways caused by the anaphalactic reaction.

Don't bring her near PH then!!

I did the whole anaphylaxis thing a while ago...genuinely the most horrific thing I've ever been through. Worrying thing is that I never found the cause (yet).

Really hope her sight turns out ok...fingers crossed.

Been through that as well

Food colourings - particularly 'Tikka type' colours does me - skin hives on torso - nose and lips badly swell as though I have had a kicking ..and feel drowsy....

Always have a packet of Piriton anti histamine tablets any where I go - 3 or 4 of them usually assists .

When you speak about the incidents , you find its becoming so common , a large part of the population have this - just found out that the neighbour carries a pen .

We have swapped phone numbers in the event of any local emergencies...you need to advise relatives / friends / neighbours if it affects badly...

Indeed talking about the subject with close friends,i realise quite a few people i know have some allergies.
I'm fortunate myself to have nothing that i'm aware of so far in life.
Load of eye tests today.. vision is better (black and white shapes).. hopefully it will continue to improve.
She will have a pen after this is over with.
I'm sure the people who she interacts with on a daily basis will know she has one.. just in case.
Complete nightmare.

Still recovering from the phone call saying she was blind.. nothing can prepare you for news like that.

Will do. Hospital said physically her eyes are fine. Its possibly her brain resetting how it handles the signals from the eyes itself. Small improvements today (but she is fed up of being poked and prodded)

Feel your pain. My gf has a nut allergy. Accidentally had a bite of a nut cluster cereal. half an hour later she was having difficulty breathing, so I slapped her into the Range Rover and high tailed it to the hospital 10 mins away. On reflection, I should have called an ambulance.

Arrived at A&E and explained what had happened. No time to sit, rushed through to resusitation ward in A&E where we spent the next 5 hours. Gave her various shots, O2 and several xrays and scans.

Now have an epipen permanently with her. Scariest thing ever.

What now annoys me are people who have "allergies". No you don't, you either don't like it, have a reaction or are an attention we! Until you've been in that ward and are there watching the people next to you die and hoping and praying that the right drugs are being pumped in and that everything is still going to work aftwards, you can just fk off

Indeed pointing towards the neurological rather than the eye itself is quite scary for me.
But relief the eye itself is physically okay.

Times like these make the trivial moans in life seem so insignificant.
Still at least we know what caused it.. more tests await.
