Hi all,

Looking at going on a short road trip to northern France during the upcoming bank holiday weekend as was wondering if anyone can advise on a route. Hopefully looking at spending some time on a beach during the trip. Since its such a short duration... I don't want to do too many miles.

Thanks.

Totally agree - you couldn't find a closer spot than Le Touquet for a beach weekend.

Pedant mode on : there's a beach to the right of Calais dock

Helpful mode on : actually there's a few nice beach resorts along that coast just beyond Le Touquet eg Fort Mahon Berck Le Trport

The beach at Wissant is really nice and it's only 22km from Calais, if you take the coast road. The old town of Boulogne is really nice too.

If you want a nice weekend in a beach resort drive the extra 90mins from Le Touquet and visit Deuville or its slightly cheaper neighbour Trouville.

Hon Fleurs got a nice beech just as you head out of town, and the harbours nice for sight seeing. Hon Fleurs about 15 mins before Deuville & Trouville.

We went there for a walk along the beach and lunch on a day trip. It was very pleasant. We got buzzed by a few paramotors too, which was quite fun.

If the weather doesn't turn out to be what you expected you could always drive into Germany and visit the Nurburgring wink

Honfleur gets my vote too. the harbour is beautiful and you can enjoy a boat trip in the estuary as well as enjoying a wonderful meal in one the many basin side restaurants. The Hippocampus (seahorse) is a personal favourite. If you head south out of Honfleur on the coast road, on the right hand side you will find a butterfly house which is great to explore if the weather turns unfavourable. As you continue south on the left you will see a farm with a yellow and white striped sign. This farm produces the most amazing cider, perry and Calvados beer. The tour is really interesting and the produce excellent quality and great value. WE always stop there on the way to/back from Le Mans to pick up supplies ;0) On the way down the A16 you will notice signs for the services at the Somme. Make a point of stopping here as the view from the observation tower is stunning and you can also feed the very friendly fish over a nice coffee!.

Boulogne has a great beach just to the north of the ferry terminal and there is a TVR friendly car park and underground parking if you need it. There is a row of small shops and cafes too which I believe service the local lido.

Have a great trip!
