Having an early mid-life crisis, I am selling my house an going to buy a car. I am 99.99999% sure it is going to be a 4.5 Cerbera, but before I buy one I want to hire one for weekend to make sure. I have tried tons of places but can only get Tuscans or Chims. Does anyone know anywhere (preferably in the South-east) that hires out cerberas?

Cerbera is probably a good choice, more room inside to sleep in and you might be able to fit a sink in the rear cubby hole.

Very good.....

Not sure I would be too bothered about the sink! Tried Castle, they have stopped hiring and bespokes only do the Griff and the Tuscan.

Just going to have to borrow one of yours????

I've got one that you can have indefinite use of following payment of a one time fee....

These are 1 of the few companies that looks like it still hires out a Cerb (although they have all the stats wrong for the car, so I don't know how good they will be)....

www.platinumhire.com/uk/cardetail.cfm?car_id=40

The only problem, is they are based in Hertfordshire.....

Attractive offer....

I think that the non-damage waiver and non-return policy maybe a little prohibative tho!!

Thanks for the link to platinum. I shall check them out.

R.e. Platinum Hire

Tried them when i first started looking at Cerberas i tried everywhere, fairly confident no-one hires Cerberas other TVRs most people do.

Do what i am doing and just buy one...

I believe that Platinum Hire have suspended trading.

Things may have changed since then (11 June).

You can hire mine, I come with the package, and I'm driving
We can sort out a direct debit payment arrangement.

Jouques, we have a Mid Essex TVRcc Meet this Sunday 8th.

Even if you can't find one to hire there will be plenty at the meet and lots of owners to chat with.

Be delighted to see you.

If you are interested, drop me a mail and I'll send you the details.

I've been considering setting up a Cerbera Hire company, does anyone think its a good idea. Insurance is high though, about 5K a year to let anyone over 25 with clean licence drive. If I can get 20 bookings at £400 per weekend, i will do it though.

The need for hire has been removed......

Local dealer called me on Friday and let me take out a 4.2 on Saturday.

I know that this is going to be old news for most of you, but what a result. Got in the passenger seat and started to think that a Cerb was a bad idea....rattle, lump, bump.

Got in the drivers seat and oh my god.

No need to hire....I'm going to get one and so what if it will drain my bank account, cause me pain sweat and tears.....I have got to have one.

Million dollar question, but reading the majority of posts on here, the consenus seems to be for later models. Is a 1997 (even with Dealer warranty) asking for trouble?

No...ours is a '97 and is a real Peach.

Just make sure that it has had any of the recalls done.
Usually stamped somewhere.
The dealer will be able to advise.

Be warned however....once bitten, you willed smitten for life!!!

I would say that mileage, condition and history are alot more important than the the year of the car.

Mileage common concensus seems to be - not too few, not too many.

Condition, you get what you pay for, or pay for what you get.

History, FSH a must, dealer or specialist only. Has it had a new clutch fitted or a rebuild or any significant work done? New clutch is definately a bonus.

A bit vague I know, but it's a start!
