Do odometer problems matter?

Hi,
I'm thinking of putting my beloved Chimaera (1995) up for sale. I have had the car for just over a year but could really do with some cash now and, unfortunately, I think it has to go. Up until the odometer problems, the car has been fantastic. It had a new one when I bought it (the clock said 790 miles) but going by the dates of previous MOT's and the mileage stated it had done around 35,000-40,000 miles. In the year I've had it, I doubt I've done over 2,000 miles. Recently I went away and I didn't drive it for 4 weeks. I came back and the battery had gone flat. Since then, every time I start the car. The mileage starts at zero (as if I had a trip computer set) I now have no idea how many miles the car has done and I don't know how much a new odometer would cost? I checked some forums and it sounds like this is a common fault.
What I'm asking is:
a. Is this an easy problem to fix?
b. Will this massively decrease the value of my car?
