Chicken in the Basket in a roadside pub near Coventry in about 1973. Greasy fried food in an absorbent, unwashable structure protected only by a bit of kitchen towel. Madness.

Had a roast dinner served up on a plank of wood, I sent it back asking for a plate.

I just don't get it. frown

I also can't stand the thing of serving elements of the meal in separate containers on the slate/plank whatever. I had a meal the other day which consisted of a pie in a dish with peas in a ramekin and chips in a mini frying basket! FFS just bring it on a plate in a way that I can eat with a knife and fork!

'Boards' are (one of) my chief stgrippers too.

This isn't the Middle Ages (although to look at the clientele of my local pub one can't be entirely sure).

Thanks to advancements in science and technology we no longer have to eat with our hands, or die of bubonic plague. So why regress?

I especially hate it when your (already tiny) burger comes on a board with an even tinier little pot, containing about six chips.

Yes The bill and fking Ben chip portion is a pet hate of mine too,

Although since moving to the US of Heart Disease I no longer complain of small portions!

Had brunch in Denmark the other week and everything came in old jam jars - cheese, yoghurt, fruit, etc all had its own old jam jar. I quite liked it, but being in a cafe I was prepared to accept a less formal presentation.
