Ive just aquired a mark adams tornado chip for my 4.0 chim, it came out of another 4.0 so i thought it should be a straight swap, every time i swap over the ECU and take it for a drive the MIL light comes on and stays on untill i swap over the ECU's again
Any idea what might cause this?
Cheers Rob

Funnily enough I spoke to Mark yesterday. He advises it requires a dyne run on your car first and then mapping to the specific perimeters of your engine as they all have very slightly different states of tune due to them being a) TVRs b) Old. No idea if this is right or not but that's what he told me.
The MIL light is not enabled on the standard chip whereas it is on Mark's chip so you will probably find that there is not fault with the Tornado chip but an existing issue somewhere.
If you know someone with a fault code reader you will be able to find out what the issue is by connecting to the ECU via the diagnostic port.

Best way to do it is get in touch with Mr Adams tell him your engine spec ,send him your chip,he will have your state of tune on his PC (from another car which he rolling roaded),then he will burn you a new chip .Known as "Best Guess map"cheers Rob
Cost me £25 at the time ,made my old 4l with the MC1 cam ,carbon trumpts and ACT induction kit go like the clappers and decent mpg .
If you have a standard car and you know this one is just a standard chip it will be fine..

What is an MC1 cam Darren? Thinking about upgrades to my 4ltr.
A very nice relacement for an engine which does not have pocketed pistons ..So alot of the 4l cars can not except the Stealth..The MC1 is very smooth ,responsive but still has a bite ..
TVRBOB fitted his own ,you don`t even need a vernieer timming set for the MC1.
fueling should be ok but the Mark Adams best guess map (CHIP) made a big difference especialy with the Carbon trumpets and ACT full induction kit ..

that sounds good, whats the best way to get hold of Mark Adams
Rob
Someone on here has is phone number,a full diognostics and mapping on a rolling road is better but it could cost you 1k ..Try and just start with the "best guess map"Rob
You need to be carefull with those chips ,they can collect static ..Mark Adams does mention this some where.
Did you remove the ECU while fitting the chip ?

i have got the whole ECU with the chip from another car, so im just swaping the ecu's over not the chip, does this make any diffrence
cheers Rob
Nope- but you still need to find out what the fault code is, as already said you dont get the MIL on the TVR chip, so you may have been running round on the get you home fuel map and not known it!cheers Rob
To read the fault codes you either need one of Steve Heaths ECU mates (£110), or code reader (about £40 from memory- just codes) or the RoverGauge Im working with (adaptor cable £35).
