Ok guys this is for a woman, so I make no attempt at deciphering the logic here!

Criteria!!!

Golf size
Preferably new
5 doors
preferably something with a badge
Not too thirsty

She wanted the new countryman but after choosing all the extras it came out at 30k!!!!!

Tiguan. Q3. X1.

The Yeti would be decent but not sure if that counts as a "badge".

4WD for any reason? Mk6 Golf GTD seems to tick most of those boxes, and its bang on £25k according to the website.

a base spec evoque td4 150hp 4x4 5 door is just over 29k.

I recon it will worth out cheaper in the long run than spending 25k on a hatchback, if in fact a car that you want actually exists

Oh god, I'm going to actually say it-

If she really is badge obsessed, would an x1 be worth a look?

I am lucky enough to have only ever seen one, but it seems to be the ideal pointless hunk of ste she might like.

No idea on UK prices either I'm afraid, but hey, it's only a suggestion.

Personally, I would go for a yeti and buy something interesting/fun/charismatic/useful etc but each to their own

Audi A3 quattro?

Fulfills badge snobbery - part time 4wd (probably won't be used I bet), diesel available.

A3 quattro. You could probably make some savings as the new model has just been revealed.
