Looking for advice

my son bought an 07 plate Mazda 6 from a local dealer about 8 months ago and has had a lot of problems with the car.
both front wheel bearings were replaced under warranty.
After this he noticed lack of power and poor fuel consumption and the dealer replaced the O2 sensor under warranty.Unfortunatly this did not cure the problem and it went back and they replaced the Mass airflow meter and again no change but as it was due to go for a service he held off taking it back until the service.
During the service they could still not find the problem but did advise he needed new lower suspension arms and these would not be covered by warranty and would cost over £450 to supply and fit.
When he got the car back he got an emissions test done at a local exhaust place who said it was sky high and would fail a MOT so back to the garage and the fitted a new cat and still no change.
The garage told him today they would need to take it to a Mazda dealer and put it on the diagnostic machine for which my son would have to pay a non refundable £75 plus vat.
This all seems a lot of problems for a car with 40 k miles and I have said he should not pay.
Opinions please, should he pay?

The wheel bearings and lower arm problems are consider wear and tear and would not be covered.
However what one dealer calls worn out and needs replacing will vary to another as will the price of such repairs, and you will always do well to seek a good independent for such things.
The fuel consumption and power issue is a bit more complicated.
To be covered under warranty the fault should be demonstrable. If they say they can't find a fault and you can't prove it exists you won't get very far.
In my experience the hardest faults to fix are the ones where the customer thinks something is wrong but the dealer can't find it. Noises, rattles, poor MPG, lack of power, and pulling to one side are common examples of this kind of thing.
If you have a high emission reading from somewhere this will help, but the main dealer will want to do their own, and take action based on that, and not another garages.
If he has had the CAT changed at the local exhaust place this could also make things very hard for you.
I don't think its a serious enough problem to start talking about car not being fit for purpose, so what I would do is book it in and ask for a loan car.
While you have their car out on loan tell them you will not accept it back until it is fixed, and not just replaced a part to see if it makes a difference only for you to have to book it in again later if it isn't.
This may or may not get you anywhere!
2007 with 40k miles bought 8 months ago will be a used warranty rather than manufacturers from new warranty (3 yrs?).
Wheel bearing and ball joints/ wishbones are not covered by these warranties.
High emissions / not running right after 8 months could be tricky, most used warranties require you to pay for a diagnosis before approval is given no way round that.
