Are the Beer prices for supermarkets in le mans inflated ?

Do the supermarkets like auchan in the le mans area charges higher prices for beer etc. than the same supermarket in other towns.
If so I could stop off in a town on the way down from calais to buy it

Good point, Ive been going to Le mans for years, never really thought of that! I would think so, their not stupid But also the locals do shop in the same stores, so it may not be Too inflated?

I'm pretty sure they're the same prices as per normal. I don't remember paying any more in Le Mans during race week than when I buy them from my dad's local supermarket which is two hours south of Le mans.

I love Leffe but it's really expensive at the supermarkets in Le Mans, whereas at Cora in Rennes (I go Plymouth / Roscoff) it was 10 euros for a box of 20, so less than half the price!! I 'loaded up' on the way home, but it's a small car with lots of camping stuff so I only managed to fit in a few..

C'mon. think on your feet, not your nether regions. We locals buy beer too, so the orices are the same whether you buy at Carrefour Market at Mulsanne bend or Auchan 10 miles away (well, a slight difference since one is a mini-market compared to the big Auchan). What you will find is that in most places a pint in a bar around the circuit goes up to 5€ or even 6€ but for us locals it remains the same as usual - they don't want to ps off the people who use the bar all year round.

Lowdrag, think I've asked this before but can't remember the answer, the Mulsanne corner Carrefour, does it open on a Sunday? We're arriving the Sunday before, it'd stop us having to lug stuff down from Scotland for that nights tea.

or if you want to look loaded 5euros a PINT...yes FIVE EUROS a PINT in a bar

I dont think it is open on Sunday, Super U in Arnage has never been open on Sundays

As someone who works for a brewery in France I can also confirm the pricing actually if anything is likely to be reduced due to the promotional activity conducted during the summer period.

The hostesses in the Supermarches with those littel vouchers they hand out as you fill the first trolley of stubbies is for further discounts, so in fact overall pricing is likely to be a little lower, but not really noticeable, certainly not higher.

Also, this year, keep your eye out for draught kegs, some of the Supermarches such as Carrefour will have new draughtkeg fridges installed by this time and therefore the kegs are pre-chilled and if you can keep it chilled on the site (ice from fish counter etc etc) then you can have draught beer instead of stubbies.

Not so good for beer mountains but another option. You have to get them chilled otherwise they will just 'fob', constant foam and not very drinkable.

last year we had 1 euro off kronnenberg 1664 6 pack cans , which made it cheaper than carrefour own brand lager, think it was around 2.60 with discount !
always look for the section manager around the beer and ask for discount ...nothing ventured ,,,

I usually holiday in France in August, camping with the kids, and agree that the beer in Le Mans at the supermarket is typically cheaper with the promotions. It certainly does not appear to be hiked in price at all.
This is my experience over the last 4 years.

The supermarkets in LM will run out of the special offers quickly but will always have something, we usually buy ours on the way down when we stop for lunch

We usually get ours at Calais - cos it takes us HOURS deciding really important things like ..... whether we should buy a small, medium or large football.... or what type of butter to buy...... or what type of disposal cutlery would be best. Oh yes and we have the annual 'lets walk round the beer isles for ages - and then buy the same as we got last year'. At least by the time we do get on the road its a non-stop drive to the campsite!!!!!!!

No is the answer. Supermarkets are closed on Sunday, but at Moncé en Belin and at Ruaudin there are two small supermarkets open on the Sunday morning. Neither is far from the circuit in a car.

Last year at Carrefour market Mulsanne, they had special deals on beer, and big bottles of DSP. There was a beer mountain as you walked in; So no, the prices go the other way = cheaper :-)

This year all beer will be confiscated, and special undercover agents will be there to impose fins for anyone trying to sneak beer into the campsites. BEWARE
