TDI Sharan - Odd noise when ease off accelerator

I recently bought a used Sharan (2003) to act as the new FamilyAce transport. I've noticed that, especially in first gear, the car makes an odd noise when I take my foot off the accelerator. It's quite hard to describe but it seems like a rubbing / grinding noise (as if two components are in contact) for half a second or so when I take my foot quickly off the throttle. Doesn't sound like pressure is being released but more a dry friction type sound.

The car's done 92k and I'm worried that it might be something expensive. I'm also in dispute with the dealer as the air con is totally non funtional so I'm returning it to them to get fixed (leak from pipes / pressure switch, don't think it's the compressor)

Coupled with the odd noise I'm losing confidence - shoud I ask them to fix it or woudI have grounds to reject? It's been less than 2 weeks since I bought it.

A friend had this and it took ages to find. If it's the same as his, it's the first mounting point for the exhaust - it's a small plate which shears in 2 parts, which vibrate together as you let off the throttle. Cost £18 for the new part.

Ditto to Sunbeam's suggestion..... air con is probably just needing a regas....most brits are not air con savvy... and never have 'em serviced/regassed for fear of being ripped off...the usual british trick...so, many that don't work need a £40 regas...

The aircon by the way needs more than a regas - quite a big leak and had a mobile chap come to look at it. Unfortunately the leak is from somewhere under the airfilter so this would involve taking the entire front of the car off, but it either a pipe, a seal or the pressure switch that engagaes the compressor. I'm taking the car back for that just in case the compressor is knackered as well but it's certainly not a £50 Kwik Fit fix available.

The Aircon will probably not just be a regas, we had a 2002 tdi Sharan we bought new and the aircon failed when it was about 4 years old, needed £500 spending on it, apparently they were built down to a price and dont last long, cant remember which bit but wasted £50 on a regas which lasted about two hours before conking out again. I would say get a diagnosis off a specialist rather than a regas and save sending £50 into the air.

Agree on the aircon. Had the same on my 03 Passat. Wasted money on a regas, it needed a new compressor at 500 quid. Ouch.

Exhaust mount seems sensible. Have you tried any dedicated vw forums to see if they can help?
