I saw this on Jalopnik and did a search to see if anyone else has started a topic about it...

A Honda forum in the US reported one of its members for posting a video of himself racing a Subaru on the highway then crashing. He didn't anyone else, but the forum tok the view that he was giving them a bad name and shopped him.

What's the PH take on this? I can't make my mind up really... I think its good they're trying to self-police almost, but one man's dangerous driving is another guy's 'hoon'

We all know ten Pence's story, and we've all been out for spirited drives, but where does the line end?

The lad in question was driving like a tool and deserves some comeback, but to what extent should the petrolhead community do this? Is drifting on the street acceptable?

Ah, knew I forgot something! cheers EDLT

I agree on the sentiment, but just wondering how far it goes?

to post it on facebook then the guy is a knob.

but i am a bit more concerned about the cameraman who is driving and trying to keep up whilst filming the 'race'.

I guess it all depends on a lot of variables.

JmillerUA6 on the forum seems to sum it up. From his descrition the driver is a bit of an arrogant tool on the forum but quite pleasant in real life. He then wrecks his car racing an Impreza on a reasonably busy highway. If it was an empty highway, I probably wouldn't be that bothered, but this guy clearly thinks he on Need For Speed.

It would seem its the straw that broke the camels back, as the oh so wise Jmiller also points out its bad apples spoiling the bunch for the car community.

To add: sorry for the Americanisms but I thought it would keep with the tone of the honda forum hehe

I imagine loads of people 'get away' with this kind of thing by not posting it on the internet. I think it's a lesson of considering what we decide to tell everyone in the great ol' public forum.

We should all be more careful about what we post on the internet and how we behave. Your anonymity online is far from guaranteed- even if you defame someone online and face action in a civil case.

It would not be too difficult for someone pursuing a civil action in defamation to obtain a court order forcing Haymarket or any other forum provider to release your IP and other details.

He is asking for it if he posts videos of 'street racing'.

Would have thought that the best solution would be for the forum to maturely ask him to remove the content though.

I'm more impressed that he was holding his own against an STI

I'd say he beat it tbh. Tortoise and the hare I suppose, as the STi had the common sense to slow down as they got to traffic, and as they got to a corner hehe

Part of the issue is that a lot of people still see the internet as a place where you are invisible and invincible. The world has changed a lot in the last few years and the internet is now, for all its facebooks and forums, merely an extension of your personality and personal life.

You aren't just telling your mates about what you've been up to, you're telling the world. Forever.

More than likely the STI came off ok because STIs can corner, not so sure about Accords.

Can anyone tell me what engine is in the Accord...seems to do well against the STi...

Also, if he thinks he can brag / show 'street racing' on the internet and not get reported then this is probably a good wake up call.

I can't really see what happened on the video - no sound for me.

That said, think JMiller - irresponsible driving is the justification for every anti-car measure we have. If you want the government to leave your group alone, the best way to do so is to show responsibilty of your group, and that means disowning/punishing irresponsible members.

I whole-heartedly disagree with multi-car 'hoons'.

Fine, get your car moving when driving on your own on a quiet road, but with another car? Just asking for trouble.
