I'm about to collect a new motor that has a natty 2 spoke Moto Lita steering wheel. Ot could do with a bit of tlc.

Has anyone done their own before and how did it work out? Is it worth paying a professional.

Also I'll need to decide whether to go for an oiled or varnished look - can't make my mind up...

If looking for a nicely clean but patina'd look, gently remove existing lacquer. Finish with fine wire wool. Wash with slightly damp cloth and dry for a few hours or overnight. Then finish with fine wire wool and a little linseed oil. This will age wonderfully.

Lovely, thanks. I've refinished a number of my own gun stocks before so think I should be able to get this one squared away without too much trouble (famous last words!)
