Track day for a partially sighted person

Hi,

I've got a strange request which I'm hoping someone on here can help me with or at least point me in the right direction. I've got a very dear friend who will be 50 very soon and who is a (medically) retired Police pursuit driver. She was retired due to a congenital eye condition which has reduced her eyesight significantly to the point she can no longer legally drive on the public roads. What I'd love to arrange is for her to drive on a track somewhere for her birthday. Clearly hiring a whole track for the day will be too expensive - thinking it'll be £1,000's, what I'm after is something in the region of £200-300, I'm happy for her to drive my car so really I just need somewhere private that could turn a blind eye (no pun intended) to the fact my friend who was a highly skilled and competent driver but no longer has a license? Is this feasible within my budget? Any ideas as to if this is even possible...? Not worried about location or time as long as it's possible

I suspect that track day organisers would instantly fall foul of insurance liability issues. However - occasionally during the lunch break at track days the circuit owners allow tv people to do filming slots and things like that. I reckon that it has to at least be worth writing a letter to MSV and ask if - given a suitable disclaimer and acceptance of liability - they might be able to make this happen for you?

Motorsport events do "let your kid drive your car" days. I wonder if for a suitable fee they could also arrange what you are looking for?

My friend was blinded a few years ago (stupid idiot smashing a pint glass in his face when my friend was working as a bouncer) and is getting married in July. The best man has organised blind driving for the stag do, which I understand is off roading whilst being blind folded.

You can hire Curborough sprint circuit (Staffordshire) for half a day for about £700. Get a few friends to chip in and you'll be at the cost you want. Only one car allowed on track at a time which would be ideal for your friend and the other friends that chip in could have a go in their own cars too.

Have a chat with the people at Blyton Park - they hire the circuit out for testing and it isn't too expensive.

Thanks for all the replies thus far, I've emailed MSV, Richard at Blyton Park and will ask around to see if I can get some people to club together to make going to Curborough viable so hopefully one of those options will pan out .

As a bit of left field suggestion, there's the Porsche Driving experience at their Silverstone facility. I'm sure if you explain the situation they'd be happy to do it because after all there will be an instructor in the car to coax the steering wheel in the right direction if necessary. It's £275 and she gets to drive one of their cars!

Driveme at Stafford used to lend their circuit to a local blind group to let them drive on occasionally, don't know if that still happens but worth looking into.
