Sticking Calipers
Discussion
Having some issues with a sticking front right caliper.
Started when driving a few weeks ago and I realised I couldn't seem to accelerate in 3rd. Pull over to see black smoke pouring from both front wheels. Oh dear. Let them cool down and all was well for the rest of that weekend.
Stripped them down earlier this week as some people had said it could just be the slider pins that are playing up. Seems that both calipers have stuck pistons. Tried pretty bloody hard to push them back in but they were having none of it. Peeling the dust guard away from the cylinder shows what looks like quite a fair amount of corrosion/rusty crap.
I've pretty much decided already that I'm going to go the whole hog and get the fronts completely replaced. Got pads already so just trying to source new disks and calipers.
Before I pull the trigger on spending £200ish to get it all sorted, does anyone have any experience in rebuilding calipers themselves with the service kits? Am I better off just getting re-con units and saving the hassle? Any other bright ideas?

In the unlikely event this is a 1.6 mk1 (or uses the same calipers) I have a very good set of calipers from one sat useless in my workshop as my 1.8 takes larger calipers (actually think the caliper is the same but the carrier is different).
You can have all 4 for a lot less than the new one you quoted.

If the help above doesn't work just go and get some replacement/rebuilt exchange ones. Its not worth the f*cking around trying to get stuck pistons out of the caliper, if you do they will probably be damaged anyway. Rebuild kits are a few quid for just some rubber seals so not worth the hassle in my opinion.
