I have to pick up my daughter from Birmingham Uni on monday with all her s##t!
Thought I'd combine it with a trip on Sunday through Wales to Ludlow/Ironbridge area and spend the night before driving across to Brum sometime on Monday. I'm coming from Hampshire so will probably just do the A34/M4 and wondered if there are any recommendations for a good route through to make it interesting driving? I did the Petrolhead Nirvana trip through the Brecon Beacons and it's whetted my appetite for more! Any good pubs for a stop-over in the Ludlow/Ironbridge areas would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Original Severn Bridge
Wye valley to Monmouth
Left after Wye bridge on to dual carriageway towards Newport via tunnels
Off at Raglan >> Abergavenny >> Crickhowell >> Llangattock >> RIGHT on to road that joins up with B4560
(run back and forth as desired) >> Llangynidr >> B4558 >> Brecon
>> B4520 Upper Chapel >> left on to B4519 across Epynt firing ranges >> Garth >> A483 to Beulah
Right on to B4358 >> Newbridge on Wye - right then left to go north on same road to Llanyre and Crossgates on A44 >> east to Penybont >> left on to A488 to Monaughty >> right to Presteigne B4356 >> Shobdon and Mortimer's Cross on B4362 >> straight over to Richard's Castle and B4361 near Ludlow >> left B4361(still) in to Ludlow over Ludford bridge
Don't know about B&B, sorry but Tourist info should point you in right direction

Sorry this is so late but hope it may be of some use smile

Just found out the parents are going camping in Shrewsbury at the end of this month/start of next and as I'm off for 4 days while they are there I was thinking of joining them for two or three nights. I was thinking of heading to the Evo triangle and doing most of that before heading into the park. Done (very quickly) this little route on Google and was wondering if it looks any good or should I be heading further north into/around the bigger mountains?

EDIT: Just added The Llanberis pass to the route

Worth considering turning right off the A4212 (assuming you're going in that direction)onto the B4391 to Ffestiniog. Llanberis Pass is stunning visually.
The B4391 east from Bala is pretty good too.

Cheers for that, I've redone the route as I needed to make it a bit shorter. Not sure if I should go clockwise or anticlockwise. I'll probably go anti as then I get to go down the Llanberis pass as opposed to up it

Thanks Trefy, I'm not sure I will yet. This has been kind of last minute unplanned and I've a few gigs in August I've already paid for but need spending money to get to (and drinks) and I've also a big tour round Scotland planned I need cash for. If it works out I'll have extra money for fuel available I may ask for advice on a trip similar in length for a second day out from the same spot in Shrewsbury
