New owner, starting problem

Hi everyone,

finally got myself a Chimaera and as long as everything works, it's wonderful!

Now, after 3 weeks of non-use (leaky steering rack after 9 month) it's on the road again.

Had the "starting problem when hot" and fitted a new Prestolite starter. Battery fully charged, everything works fine, except when the engine is hot. Then the engine barely turns over (like with a flat battery).

Had jump leads connected to my other car's battery, it turned over nicely and started immediately inspite of being hot.

After cooling down, it starts on it's own battery without a problem.

Is it possible that the battery is ok when cool but knackered when hot?

Any suggestion greatly appreciated!

HI Stefan: congrat's on the new aquisition, sorry to hear about the probs. Try reading the "I'm back" thread on "general TVR stuff and gossip" started by Ropey. I think you'll find it helpful (David Beer / wiring etc).

looked through the posts. Gonna try a direct connection from battery neg to the engine block as david beer has done.
