Motorcyclist fights for life after 'street racer' crash near Whalley Range – police seek hit and run car

This happened pretty near my house in Whalley Range, Manchester. A few of my friends were first on the scene.
The innocent motorcyclist is still critical in hospital.

Looks like a Honda Civic and a silver MINI were racing. The MINI did not stop after the crash.

It's a pretty distinctive car, silver with a black union flag on the roof, black stripes on the bonnet.
Does anyone here recognise the car?

Thanks

So did the Honda stop at the scene? Surely they've got the guy who hit him if so...

I believe so. But it seems as though the police believe that they were racing on a public highway. A big no-no for exactly this reason.

I think it might help the police if we can identify exactly what model of Mini that is.

After looking at some adverts (I thought I might check to see if it was for sale - you never know!) All I can see is that is a Mini Cooper (not an S as no bonnet scoop). Will the Mini experts be able to tell more?

Will Mini/BMW have records as to what cars received which decals? As the black Union flag looks like an official Mini one. Might narrow down the search.

The decals are only vinyl afaik, those will be off the car and a bottle of T Cut used to clean it up by now.

I'm not sure I follow. It seems the Honda and Mini were racing, the Mini hit the motorbike and kept going, whilst the Honda driver had a heart and stopped.

The Mini is quite distinctive with the black stripped roof, I hope it won't be too hard to identify.

Great work, cheers team.

From what I understand, the Civic was on the wrong side of the road, it hit the motorcyclist.

The MINI was on the correct side of the road, and probably isn't damaged at all.

Very good point about the MINI's decals being easy to remove.

Has a link been posted on dedicated Mini forums yet?
There is a slight possibility that the car may be known on one.

Might be worth checking out any modified car/car cruise groups on facebook in Manchester and seeing if there is any pictures of a car like that with the reg still in it.

Just a suggestion, might not come to anything.

No worries, it took me a few reads, the article isn't written very well.

I hope they catch the bloke, but it seems they've already caught the guy who drove into the biker, can't imagine the police are putting too much effort into their search.
