There's a few for sale and they seem to be reasonable VFM and they're unusual (in a good way I think) and the motor is tried and proven and they still look quite good I reckon.

Thoughts?

I've had a passenger ride in one on a PH Hoon. Sure the guy mentioned it had been supercharged, seem to remember it being around the 400 break mark? It was rapid.

It's meant to be good to drive, has a nice driving environment, good exterior design and a reliable, tuneable (if somewhat underpowered in standard form) engine. Whats not to like?

I was reasonably close to buying a pre-reg one for less than half it's original list price, but opted for a nearly new (at the time) Monaro instead.

They're a real sleeper imho, just the quad exhausts and big brakes (APs?) that give the game away.

Cracking value.

Forgive my dimness but what distinguishes an xPower one?

Nige, that is the colour, xPower Grey, it isnt a model designation, this is the earlier front model and not the SE, i.e. it doesnt have the satnav/telly, but it is not stretching credibility to say it is like new, he owns a few older cars and is fastidious.

Put it this way. I will never ever sell mine.

Absolutely fantastic motor and the rarity in Itself counts for a lot.

Don't let all the MG Rover haters who undoubtedly will grace this topic at some stage put you off and base the fact that it has 260 BHP in standard form from a 4.6 litre V8 cos it's the torques that are more important. The 75/MGZT was and still is a quality motor and in V8 guise just makes it more appealable

Will be supercharging mine at some point in the very near future

I've thought about getting one of these for a long time, finally made the jump a few weeks ago. Loving it so far but a very different ownership experience to my previous cars. Feel like I need to look after it for future generations to appreciate!

I'm glad there are people out there that appreciate the effort the Prodrive team put into this car! I had a great couple of years on it's development, even if the relationship with Rover did go a bit sour at the end! smile

Edited for missing words!

OP, looking at your car history you won't find a ZT 260 all that fast unless supercharged, but they all have bags of character all the same.

I agree as standard they are not all that quick, but when stirred across the Brecon Beacons through the night windows down and exhaust howling they are quick enough wink

The original 385 development car had great trouble staying in a straight line when provoked, and the standard bodied 385 car we sent to Roush for tuning was just hilarious!

So in summary; supercharge it wink

I drove an early pre facelift one when new. It was lovely. Very very sorted chassis, felt like a dirty great go-kart. Not hugely fast sadly, the SOHC 2v Ford V8 is not one of their better efforts. If you want a 4 door saloon or estate with RWD and a V8, then they are a seriously good car to consider and can be made quick (although will like a drink).

If you could live with 2+2 seating and want the same engine and RWD, buy a better looking sn95 Mustang. As they are 200-300kg lighter than the MG and a fair bit faster.
