Good evening. I'll keep this brief. I've owned a Toyota MR2 Roadster for the past year but I now want something else. It's a great little car but I get bored quite easily! So, what shall I get next? I want a similar type of driving experience but possible a bit more power, practicality and prestige! So, what would you suggest?

A Boxster or Cayman? More weight and cost of course.

Boxter 2.7 or a Boxter S. ticks all the boxes and can be had from about £6k now. If the budget won't streach that far then a Z3 2.8 or 3.0 is good fun but a lot less practical.

I had a MK2 T-Bar a few years back. Brilliant fun but I think I'm MR2'd out now. smile

TBH, I think this is where my thoughts are heading. I need to do some serious research into the increased cost of running either of these. But this suggestion is definitely heading in the right direction.

Spot on. Is there any particular year I should avoid. I've heard the older versions suffer from various electrical issues?

Mk1 Audi TT 240 Quattro Sport (awesome, I miss mine, gutted)

If you consider one then dont get an 06 and up Reg, the tax is much less on a 55 and earlier Reg (about a third less if I remember correctly).

That wasn't specified as a criterion. But this one (now sold) was under £20k: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3871388.htm

Like any TT, heavy and understeery.

I went from an MR2 Turbo into an Audi TT, what a dire move that was. With hindsight, the TT's drive didn't excite me like it had in the past but I was willing to trade some of the fun the MR2 Turbo offered for more all-weather capability. Piss poor Audi build quality put an end to my time with the TT pretty quickly though.

You'll go much faster on all but the toughest B roads in the TT than you will in your MR2 but you will lose a lot of handling finesse and a lot of the 'fun' offered by a sports car. A much better cruiser no doubt, but the TT is definitely a GT so don't be fooled by that suede steering wheel!

I'd possibly look at a Boxster. Again, it's a bit more 'GT' than the MR2 is but still a nice steer, it'll cost more to run but it shouldn't be massively more expensive day to day. If you like the MR2 because it's small and chuckable then a Honda engined Elise might be for you.

What are you looking for?

I'd say an Elise or a TVR Chimaera.
