Apologies if this has already been covered but can anyone tell me if GoPro suction mounts are legal for sprint/hillclimb events?

I have been told they're not accepted by the MSA but have also been told they're OK for speed events only? I have also been told that the scrutineer can allow them by discretion.

I plan to fit a permanent mount eventually but can't get it sorted before this weekends event, hence the preference for a suction mount.

Thanks in advance.

It'll be a cold day in hell when I trust to a scrutineer's discretion!

I've been using a go pro with the supplied roll bar mount for a couple of seasons (of circuit racing) now and not had a scruitineer pick up on it yet. i think the blue book says something about a secondary strap to secure the camera if the mount breaks. if the scruitineer mentions this just put a cable tie around it. I don't know anything about sprints/hillclimbs though.

I used to use a suction mount on my old camera,

just added a strap which went round the camera mount and to a fixed point on the passenger side of the car.

Thanks guys,

I combined the suction mount with a couple of cable ties and a lace as an additional tether.

What I didn't do was buy an HD card. Doh!

Oh well, I'm at Brands in 3 weeks so hopefully I will finally get some footage. smile
