Semi-Slicks on the Griffith

What a difference! I put a set of Yokohama A032's on the car and they are fantastic... The car seems glued to the roads and gives you so much more confidence in the corners. The tyre dealer said that he had never seen tires that were so perfectly balanced, the maximum weight needed was 15 grams.

I have read some reviews that said these were extremely noisy. While they are certainly louder than the S03's, the noise is easily beaten by the exhaust note...

I have to add that the Griffith is rarely driven in the wet so I don't bother about wet performance too much.

How long do they last? Well, that remains to be seen; I suspect that there is a price for all that grip...

Best of all they were £100 cheaper than the S03's...

I dont drive mine in the wet much either and have been concidering this. Let me know how you get on. My S03s are gonna last approx 6000 miles including 2 trackdays, an airfiled day and a drag racing meet.

I suspect the semi slicks wouldnt last as long though but if they are a lot cheaper anyway then Id do it.

I have also directly compared A032s with SO3s and as you say the dry grip on the Yokies is amazing. You can really lean on them at the front and then get on the power much earlier without any power overseer. They are available in three compounds so how long they will last depends on which you have. I got soft and only fit them for hill climbing and then revert to the SO3s for normal use. Shouldn’t think they would last long on the road. I had a very sideways moment recently immediately after swapping back to the SO3s, I forgot how little grip they have by comparison. One thing worth mentioning is I went for 245/45/16 on the rear and fitted them to the standard 7.5 wheels. Having run them a little now I feel they would work better on an 8 inch rim (as recommended by Yokie). Having tried both in the wet, as you would expect the So3s are far better particularly if there is any standing water. In fact I would definitely avoid driving on the road with the Yokies in the rain.

I have had recent experience of Yoko032's on my car & found that with the suspension tweeks the car feels very planted, however, I did find that the middle 'diamond' was overheating after prolonged sessions. The dunlop formula R doesn't have this & I am debating trying a set, anyone with experience with these? Also, the TVRCC run Kuhmos as a control tyre, has anyone tried these on a Griff on the road?

I spoke to the bloke (Douglas) with the 750 racing Griff at Griff growl. He had Dunlop Formula Rs and said they last about half a season.
You can get different compounds though and he said once his are warmed up they last the duration of the prcatice race etc but then tend to go off if used for too long.
ie, they may not be right for trackdays.
