I had a nip around derby centre on wednesday early evening, no reason but to deafen students outside bars :-)
Anyway i got stuck in a bit of slow traffic-light related traffic, this was the first time ive had the new chim in town TBH. the temp gauge was getting close to the 100 mark to i had to pull over for a bit to let her cool off.
Anyway on opening the bonnet, it transpires that one of the last owners, probably the one who did the excellent front end rebuild, has put fans in that blow FORWARDS!!! meaning the super-heated CAT air was being blown through the rad, even worse, at low speeds the fans + air flow cancelled each other out completely!!

Can anyone suggest somewhere to get a pair of cheap-ish fans from? or even better, anyone got a pair spare?

Can't you just turn them round?

Or reverse the wires, so they spin the other way?

well.. no! because of the way the cage around them is moulded

i wonder if i can wire them backwards....? the blades are designed to be most efficient one way but may be a quick fix...

My guess is also they are wired the wrong way round ..... reverse the wiring and they should spin the right way.

I wasn't very clear but I meant could you not just turn the fan blades around on the spindles, but I guess wiring them in reverse will acheive the same result?

electric motors will run either way depending on which way they are fed voltage, the heater ones we use at work are exactly the same .

yes i know (although if the brushes are heavily worn in one direction it can kill the motor)
Im going to try it later

IIRC the connector can go on either way around so a 50/50 chance of them blowing the wrong way. Just unplug , reverse the connection and plug back in.

If you need to test, just disconnect the plug from the otter switch and short it with a paper clip to make the fans come on

actually the connector is 1 way only, one spade is 90 deg offset.

the fans are definitely the wrong ones, you can tell by the shape of the blades, oh and the arrow saying FLOW pointing forwards!
