The cockpit seats in HMS Simpo II are giving me a conundrum:

They are very nice and comfy and look good, but the backs don't fold down. This is a slight pain as they overlap the entrance way a little (especially the helmsman's) and so make getting on and off slightly harder. The high backs also make the cockpit look smaller.

Question is - can you see a way to modify these brackets so that they will hinge? Or a new hinging version that will retain the folding arms?

(The current brackets are made of pretty chunky steel, 4-5mm thick)

Probably ealier to make it (whole seat) slide fwd on the pedestal as per: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GARELICK-EEZ-IN-23000-SE...
That should get it out the way??

Thanks, I think that's the best way forward... witness:

Looking underneath I see the manufacturer has fitted seat tops with an orange warning label stating: 'This bracket should only be used as a table support... Beware, injuries may occur when used for purposes other than supporting tables'.

The other rather splendid thing has has done is fit two ventilators on the roof - but not connect them to the interior! So he's issued a Certificate of Conformity for a boat with a gas oven and hob but no fixed ventilation.

I have also to discover why the fresh air intake for the Eberspacher D4 terminates in a cupboard...

ETA What's a suitable sealant to use for deck fitting please? Freemans used mastic tape but that seems rather archaic now.

It is easy to underestimate the potential for high impact spinal injuries from taking a capable craft such as this into the raging chaos that can occur in the North Sea.

Although if you browse their site you may actually find some bling stainless electro hydraulic rise and fall swivel pedestals, couple that up with an electric slide and bespoke footrest for your slippered feet and it may be more suited to your needs. wink
