28 mpg can that be right?
Discussion
Went to the Str8six open day last weekend in my late Tuscan S (great day), had to refuel on the way home and did 270 miles since I last filled up on 42.38 litres of fuel; fuel consumption doesn't normally bother me, but this works out to over 28mpg, can this be right or is my engine running lean?
The journey was mostly motorway, M11, M25 and M40, so didn't do much more than 80mph and probably averaged around 55-60mph, surely 28mpg isn't normal for a car like this?

It can be if you drive like a girl
I think this is right at the upper end but it's perfectly possible on a long motorway run without going over the limit. I wouldn't worry about it at the mo, but maybe work it out over the next couple of fillups. I generally get around 20ish, although it's been a while since I drove it in anger due to the rebuild still being run in

It is absolutely possible, i got 31mpg when going to and from chatsworth!!!
Now...yes, i was driving like a girl, even more than normal after she was sideways over standing water on the motorway, it was absolutely monsoon condition...but still...i was impressed!!!!!!!
Never got it running mine in though

I got over 34mpg at a steady 60-65 from Luton to Bristol with a full tank.
A bit of town traffic but never any right foot applied. Though I got my worst reading of 20mpg last time just driving about
Your worst reading is my usual one very rarely better 20mpg and didn't used to in the griff or the tuscans either. That said I very rarely use the motorways in the TVR as its too boring so lots of stop start and back roads driving is never going to be good for the economy.

Cliff were you not well, last time I followed you you would not have been managing 28mpg.

Kev - I think I'm feeling a bit feverish....... you're right though, motorways are boring in a tiv, quite good fun going through the tunnels on the M25 though near Waltham Abbey. 20-22 is usually the norm, I only managed around 18 in the Chim.I certainly didn't get 28mpg going up the Presscott hill climb a couple of weeks ago!
28 mpg is easily achievable on a run. On a decent run last October I got about 28 in give and take driving from Exeter to Southampton so no Motorway LazeeBoy miles. The economy was something of a pyrrhic victory though as the £60 fixed penalty speed taxation from Dorset's finest
for doing 92 and then some on the Tolpuddle bypass pushed the economy balance a smidgin into the red. Given that the 30+mpg figures quoted here seem quite believable. Never gone that slow myself of course but each to his own.
