Hi all!

I'm coming to the end of three years of motoring nirvana in an E60 M5.

[I change every three years as a matter of course]

I'm struggling about what to do, with Tom Ford's "everything is crap compared to an M5" ringing in my mind.

Options include:

Keeping the beast;

Going for the last normally aspirated M-car.....the M3 (E90/E92);

Forgetting about horrific early depreciation and getting an F10, on the basis that life is short and fk it...what the hell?

Going for something different, such as a C63 AMG Coupe (with performance package);

Giving in and becoming a boring fker!

Any advice from the M-Power crew would be greatly appreciated.

That's a pretty wide range, and it's all coming from different angles.

This might be a decision that you'll have to make yourself!

What is it that you love about the M5 that you want from the car?

I've tried the C63 and can't get on with the boring gearbox. If that amg engine had our SMG box it would be biblical, but with the autobox its just dull.

M3? Fun, but not quick or comfy enough for me when on a run.

I'm sticking with my M5 unless they decide to make another na V10.

I think you have the REALLY change - ie something that isnt similar to the M5. So, Lotus Evora or Evo X, you get the drift.

That way you can enjoy it for what it is rather than comparing.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I was an Evo man in my younger days, what fun they are.

The gearbox on the C63 is a bit slow, but as an everyday proposition, that car is very very good.

The F10 is so bloody big....it's massive and won't even get through my garage entrance!!

Just not sure!!

It would be hard to go to a GTR after an M5.....they're awesome cars, but one-trick ponies.....wouldn't fancy cruising the continent in one!

If you can afford an F10, do it! Why not?

The F10 is just massive, much more than it needs to be.

I know its a swear word for us BMW aficionados but I recently drove a 700hp (modified of course) Audi RS6

Impressive is an insult. It was absolutely bloody marvellous providing acceleration like nothing I have experienced

Yep F10 is too big and when I say that I mean unnecessarily big.

I would stick with the E60.

Out of interest in the 3 years have to had a relatively pain free ownership. I saw the nirvana comment so I assume so, would be interested to hear as a new E61 M5 owner.

Hi there!

My E60 experience has been a dream......a wonderful, faultless car with an amazing drivetrain....stunning in every way.

The car loves to have its legs stretched regularly and this is very important for its well-being.
Treat them with respect, maintain them properly and the rewards are immense.

I had condensation in the headlamp units, which were replaced by BMW as a goodwill gesture.

I add 750 ml of oil every 3000 miles, regular as clockwork.

I get 15000 miles out of PS2s at the rear, a little more at the front.

My car has now covered 49000 miles and is still on the original discs!!

The SMG box gets some criticism, but I think it's fab.....experienced drivers operate smooooothly, feathering the throttle at times to ease the gears in.....very satisfying.

Maindealer servicing is fairly expensive (oil changes tend to crop up quite frequently, depending on usage), but I can live with that no problem if it means maintaining the BMW extended warranty (don't leave home without one)

Go on a long journey in one of these cars and you'll appreciate how utterly awesome they are......the way they just keep piling on the speed into three figures is shocking.....and very few cars can touch them at the top end.

I will end up in an F10, but be in no doubt: the V10 engine in the E60 is a masterpiece, making the car an addictive driving experience.....BMW at its very best.

780bhp is easy from the C6 with only an MRC map, filters and miltek. I've driven it and its biblical!

Indeed, agreed on all the above. I find the feathering lifting off the throttle during paddle change makes for a much smoother gear change. The car sat on the motorway in the fast lane is just an experience. Cars in the rear view mirror just disappear quickly if you floor it and even in 6th gear.

I just wish everyone had the opportunity to even drive one for a weekend let alone own one.

Let us know what you go for!
