2000 miles of road trip done, and the Tamora is running well, apart from the heater blower stopping working yesterday.

I saw there were a few threads on this being a pain to fix. Does anybody have any quick fix ideas? Some threads seemed to indicate there was a controller that could be tapped as there might be connection issues.

Driving the next 1000 miles with no air could be awkward. Currently near Stresa, and heading up into Switzerland (Lucerne) next if anybody knows of TVR people in that area.

Internet access is intermittent, but should be able to pick up any info this evening.

Thanks

Try

Eggimann Cars, Gewerbestrasse 3a, CH-4450 Sissach

Garage Hofmann, Willestrasse 1, CH-8957 Spreitenbach

TGE Autotechnik, Dorfstrasse 147, CH-8424 Embrach

All 3 are just an hour away from Lucerne.

Try unplugging and plugging it back in. (its under the dash on the PS side) usually the connector on the loom starts to melt causing poor contact with heater amp itself. Should be enough to see you home where you can do a proper fix with a new plug.

Thanks for the info on garages and potential fix. Will try tomorrow morning, an away from the car today and have found some wifi at lunch.

I have the car manual and the Graham Varley manual, so should be able to identify the part to pull.

If that doesn't work, then could be a trip to a garage is needed.

The PCB board that controls the heater blower is mounted under the passenger dash. It has two large capacitors on the the board which generate alot of heat and are well known for burning out. As someone already said, the connector plug generally burns out at the same time. I don't believe the boards are any longer available but there is a place in Luton which refurbishes them for about £50 - if you do a search on PH it comes up.

So if that is the problem (as it was on my T350) its not an easy fix if you are in Switzerland!!! Also, if you do get it fixed, you can relocate it in the passenger vent pipe to allow air to flow over the capacitors and hopefully cool them down a bit - I think its in the Graham Varley bible about that one.

The wiggling of wires approach seemed to work, and the fans were operational this morning.

Just need to keep working until Sunday - near 1000 miles of driving to do before then...

When home, I will have a proper look at it and see about relocation as Graham's manual. And wash the car...

Does anybody know if the heat issues are better at low fan speeds or high?

Graham's manual suggests that if a drop in fan speed is noticed it may be better to turn the fan off and let the controller cool. Not sure if I will notice that when driving.

As an aside, full throttle in 3rd gear in a long tunnel with the roof down (and a loud exhaust) is good fun.

Change the two capacitors (looking like small batteries) on the board. You will get them in any good sorted shop for electronic equipment. However, you will need a soldering iron. It is not the best to do that job on the road, I guess!
