Dawn Raid II. The Aftermath...
Discussion
Thanks to those who came along, you were great fun. Mrs H and Mr Mrs H came in a Wedge apiece, I'm very impressed.
Davrian let me have a good drive of his Porker, with which I must say I'm also very impressed. Lovely car. Also like to say that no matter how much of the Porkers acceleration I enjoyed, Deeen was right behind me.
Not sure that the morning was a total success though. Saturday mornings are a no-no as we discovered, we didn't get the traffic free roads I was expecting. Frankly we had far less traffic when Dav and I did the reccie one evening in the week.
At one point we were in a queue behind a caravan, with a stretch limo and a stretch HUMMER in front of us. We also came across a 20+ car queue with a woman in a Landrover at the head of it. Bloody dangerous driving, that is.
Also, the guy who promised me the sunshine let me down, and even delivered some RAIN! That made the C&F road very slippery. Mrs H had a slight moment, which she held really well. Kept the car rolling, didn't just sit there on the brakes. Again, I was very impressed.
On the way home back down the M6 I witnessed a serious accident on t'other side. A small red hatchbach spun off backwards into the trees at a horrendous speed, then barrel rolled along the top of the barrier. Made me feel quite sick. Can't bear to think what's it done for them.
I think the highlight for me, apart from the drive in the 911, was meeting up with some more PHers. You really are a fun and enthusiastic bunch, and great fun to be with.
Right, got to go now. I'm off to a classic car weekend. Got to drink lots of lumpy bitter with men with beards. Got me best socks under me sandals.
Hey ho,
Nonny

Hey ho,
Nonny
I now can't think of any better reason for moderating the alcohol intake on Friday night and getting up at 4.45 on a Saturday morning :
The route was excellent - some of the roads are old favourites of ours and some until now, untravelled. We had to request a pitstop for fuel. Neil's SEAC
despite full tank on departure.
Strines Moor (I think) where my glove box few open, the surround from the radio fell off
I really enjoyed it, despite my "moment"
Then we come across the two police scamera vans on the C&F but we were all above board and legal, Officer
Thanks Nonny for organising.

I won't put on here what words were going through my mind - I could just see the wall looming
and the car's for sale. I expect Neil will put his own post on about what he thought when he checked the rear view

Thanks to all who turned up and enjoyed a great run. Nonny you are being a bit hard on yourself. The route was great, the cars fabulous and the traffic gave some opportunity for real fear on my part when you took over the wheel.
I learned a few things:
1] from the passenger seat things arrive faster
2] from the passenger seat you can only see road and not the front of the car.
3] when someone called Nonny says 'we won't be travelling as fast because it's not my car' don't
believe him
4] when you see a car in front it's not a question of 'if' but 'when' Nonny will relegate it to history.

Don't know if this link will work. I don't have the best of luck with Fotango!

Hi everyone
Yes a big thanks to nonny for setting this up, the sun came out about 12.00 as i drove to York, just as you predicted!
700 miles over the weekend with no hiccups, used no water and just a drop of oil... I love Trev!
The first run I have done where I was the only Chimp, it was great to be out with the wedges, and that Porsche was surprisingly fast, I even had to resort to full throttle at times!!!
So dont fuss about the details you mentioned Nonney, it was brilliant fun, i've nearly recovered now and i'm just looking forward to the next one!
Good luck, Dean

Hi Deeen
Good to have you along In case it upsets Burriana I won't make childish remarks about using full throttle He He
Nonny we need to do it at least once again before the end of the summer. Got to be a Sunday 'cos of the traffic and despite the non arrival of hoards of people due to the timing we need to be up and about before the crowds. If you can tear yourself away from the beards, sandals and Marinas. that is!

You just did you wally
and in response to Nonny's observation ... ".Also like to say that no matter how much of the Porkers acceleration I enjoyed, Deeen was right behind me." ... there is a very simple and purely objective explanation... the TVR is a faster car.

Err it's not for me to criticise Nonny for not giving it death in the Porsche (after all it's someone elses's car!) but will you be willing to hand over the keys and let him have a go!. I'm not precious about my car! Say we swop the keys and see who gets there first. Understand it's not a challenge but an offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
