Panasonic TV connect to the internet
Discussion
I've got a Panasonic Viera TX-L42E30B TV and I'd like to connect it to the internet in the cheapest way possible!!
Panasonic recommend their own dongle (of course) which apparently gives connection only to a list of approved Panasonic websites. It includes youtube, skype and BBC-I player but not a lot else. It also costs a minimum of £49.99!!
It does not have a full web browser facility
So I'm looking for something that can connect my Sony Viao laptop and getthe chance to watch youporn see the internet on a big screen. I would prefer wireless connection obviously but a cable would not be a problem if needs be.
The TV has USB, HDMI, a 15-pin connector and ethernet points.
The laptop is wireless and has USB, ethernet, a 15-pin connector and a 's400' port?
The TV manual seems to be written by deranged 12 year old. Errrrr. Help?

The 15 pin connector is most likely to be a VGA port. Dunno what line of work you're in, but most companies have an IT department (or person) who will probably have a cable you can have for free. If not, you should be able to pick one up off the net for a quid. The laptop is wireless and has USB, ethernet, a 15-pin connector and a 's400' port?
When you're connected up, you will have to tell your laptop to either (a) duplicate displays or (b) extend display onto the external screen. Personally, I'd do (b) and set the screen resolution to that of the tv.
This will only sort you out for video by the way - the cable doesn't do anything for sound - for video/audio in one cable you would need HDMI, which you haven't said your VAIO laptop has. If your telly has an audio in, it'll probably be 2 connectors for left and right (white and red) which you'll need to connect to the headphone socket on your laptop. Alternatively, you can use the same socket on the laptop to connect to an amp/speakers (using a cable with a headphone jack at one end and the red/white plugs on the other).
Hope this helps!

Looking at the reviews for the dongle linked below from Amazon you may be able to use it as an alternative to the Panasonic one. A bit cheaper at £26.10.Panasonic recommend their own dongle (of course) which apparently gives connection only to a list of approved Panasonic websites. The dongle has a crap range but honestly panasonic tv's IMHO aren't supposed to be used for the internet, it's just a complete faff. The browser is rubbish, the remote is rubbish, the apps are rubbish and the accessories are priced so you don't buy them. Even if they added netflix it would still be crap because the interface is like something produced on an amiga. What would improve things is if they made it workable with an app like zeebox (then you would need connection to wifi), the panasonic app is a "delete after open" one.
