Opinions on this mess? (MX5 Content, pic heavy)

Hiya,
It's a long one sorry!
Bought an MX a few weeks ago that wouldn't go into gear with the engine running, just got the 'box off today.
Few things -
The spigot bearing just fell out when we took the box off, and as you can see from the pics it looks like its been half in the flywheel and spinning inside it. Just not pressed in properly at some point? Car has 140K on it so assuming it's had a clutch at some point. Operation feels rough.
It looks to me like the main seal has been leaking do you agree? There was an oil leak up above from the rocker cover as well but I think that oil around the seal is from the seal. You can see on the back of the flywheel it looks like there's a place on the rim where oil has settled at some point.
Crank enfloat - just shoving the crank by hand I can get a tiny ammount of movement on it, not really enough to see just enough to get a slight clunk you can feel. The spec is 0.3mm max so I guess it's around that ballpark. The car has miles on it and will just be for occasional weekends and trackdays until we kill it properly. Would I be mad just to leave that as is?
The old clutch has lunched it's self as you can see, are those patterns on the surfaces a givaway of oil contamination or just normal abuse? Can an oil leak like that kill a clutch through overheating or whatever?
Anyway sorry again for rabbiting on, here's the pics!

See the oil residue on the edge?

You may have to fit the new bearing with a bearing grade Loctite. If it has been spinning in the crank a new bearing may again be loose. buggalugs said:

Yes it needs replacing but looks to be a case of simply digging the old one out (carefully) and replacing it. buggalugs said:

End float will be fine.buggalugs said:

Most of the problem with the clutch is the oil leak. The patterns (worms) are a normal part of the clutch material. The oil leak does not overheat the clutch just does what oil is supposed to do...make things slippery.Steve
The clutch is heavily worn, but any oil leak is minimal, and I doubt it would have affected the clutch in anyway.
Unless you cleaned those components before taking the photographs.
The friction material still has a light colour to it...ie dry.
Certainly the flywheel barely has any traces of fluid on it from any leak as well.

Agree with the above posts but don't forget to seal the 6 flywheel bolt threads as the threaded crankshaft holes on MX5 are non-blind and if you don't seal them you certainly will have oil leaking into the new clutch assy, blue non-hard setting thread lock will be fine like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Loctite-Lock-Acting-Thread...
