So went out for a blat and was just turning into one of my fave roads and I heard a noise, like gravel hitting the underside of the car. Set off and then I noticed the temp rising and battery light on. Pulled over and switched off, a little steam coming from the pipe that goes into the expansion tank overflow. Had a look around and spotted the 'fan' belt was loose, then noticed the nut that holds the pulley on the alternator and the pulley was missing eek. Then spotted the pulley resting on part of the chassis but the nut had gone.

Got switched off quickly and then towed home so I hope no engine damage with the water pump not turning but I now need the nut for the alternator. Any idea where I can get one or does anyone have a spare one I can buy?? Looking at the label it is the original alternator as it says it was manufactured in June 1989 but it is a Magneti Marelli Type A127-65.

Look forward to any info

Cheers, David

Hi Mate..Not sure what size your spindle is..I think they vary from 15mm-17mm, Yours maybe the latter..Cant you just use a nyloc nut or some thread lock?...Ziga

Thanks for looking Zig. The first one looks pretty close, I need to try to measure it accurately to see for sure.

Good luck with it Dave. Shouldn't be any engine damage if it didn't overheat. I'll go check me nuts now. nuts Might have a spare somewhere.

I have an old A133 in the barn - shaft would appear to be 13.7mm dia across the threads.

The nut is 7/8" AF.

Any good?

Got some spare nuts & bolts long enough if you want them Dave. Pretty standard stuff though. If you take the bolt to Halfrauds or equiv they'll match it up for you. yes

Adam/Wyn, thanks guys for looking. Adam I think that is too small.

Have spoken to a chap today who tells me he can make one for me if I take the alternator down and it'll only cost a few quid. Going to take it off tonight and drop it in tomorrow.

Fingers crossed.

Went to the local guy today and they had a nut and washer to fit and they fitted it. All for the princely sum of nothing. Top guys.

So if anyone in the North West wants any work doing on starter motors/alternators/auto electrics then let me know and I'll gladly give you contact info.

Put the alternator back on, checked and topped up the coolant system and then ran it up to temp. All was good. Still a nice night so went out for a quick run just to get a full heat cycle through the system. Looks like I got it switched off in time

All is good in the world again smile
