What with the company car going shortly I'm thinking of having a look at an auction in the next few weeks, probably Measham. Not been for years - with the increase in the use of Ebay and Autotrader are they still worth it for a private buyer? Only after something like an '05 or '06 plate medium sized typical middle-management motor, limit of about £6k.

Worth a punt or waste of time? Best day to go Tuesday or Thursday and if you get insured can you get it home if it's not taxed?

Check the buyers fees first-I think you will pay over £500 for a car at £6k,and last time I went to Bca the decent cars we had done our homework on beforehand ended up going for nearly what you could buy them off auto trader for BEFORE fees(and negotiation with the auto trader seller)

I often see this question on here and the reply seems to be that its not worth it. I know of a guy who bought two cars at auction and they had such massive issues (auto gearbox on one) that it would have been cheaper to have bought it from a dealer. Cars on ebay are so cheap now that I can't see the point.
