Bonnet Hinge

OK so on my second outing in the new TVR (the first being marked by it overheating and losing it's coolant) I went to raise the bonnet to show a friend and..... The bonnet hinge (O/S) has snapped in half..

A couple of tie-wraps later it's back in place but obviously I need some new ones.

Any thoughts on where best to source them - I did see a thread on SS ones after a brief search and have dropped "Gerald-TVR" a mail to see if they are available.. Any other suggestions (just in case they're not)

Also - are the S1 hinges the same as S2-4s? I only ask as I've read the mount is horizontal on mine and vertical on later ones...

All the S series bonnet mounts I've seen have had the same design, with vertical adjustment on the chassis and horizontal adjustment on the bonnet.

If you look at the broken remains you'll see that it is a very simple design and any local workshop should be able to knock up a replacement for you.

Got some second hand hinges if you're stuck.

What has broken, the bolt into the chassis (its just a long bolt) or the one with a bush thing welded to it that pivots on that bolt and fixes to the bonnet?

Hi, I have a brand new set of stainless hinges supplied by Norman, I never got round to fitting them as mine are fine. Drop me a pm.

It's the threaded bolt with the rose joint on, it's snapped where it threads into the cylinder bolted to the bonnet.

I was pleasantly surprised to find them still available, so I've ordered a "stock" set, but SS ones would be much nicer

Isn't the chassis part with the slot vertical on early cars and diagonal on later cars? I don't suppose it makes any difference to the hinge arrangment?

I think it's horizontal on early cars but vertical on later ones.... According to the Bible..

Hinges I ordered from the TVR dealer have arrived, they're the wrong ones, don't look like S Series hinges at all..most odd.

Doesn't matter though as a very kind man has offered me a set of the SS ones and those are the ones I intend to use anyway :-)

I'm off to Germany this weekend (on my bike) so I won't have a chance to do this until next week (shame) but I'm really looking forward to the faff associated with getting the alignment right.. Think I may take a leaf out of TVR's book and just do a "close enough" job...

I'm kinda hoping I can actually open the bonnet to do the work, it's zip-tied (tie-wrapped) down on one corner at the moment and everything I've read leads me to believe it'll bo one heck of a job opening it up now, wish I'd read the bit about removing the rear arch liner before I shut it first time LOL

Ah well, it's a trivial enough thing :-)

Hinges arrived and they look great. Decided to just replace the broken one (time constraints) but TBH it was pretty simple/easy.

All in all I guess it took about an hour, surprisingly all the rusty bolts undid easily enough (air wrenches - you just gotta love them!).

One bolt in the new kit was too long (as expected) but nothing a disc cutter couldn't sort in 30 seconds.

New hinge looks great and works perfectly.
