Who sings this 80's heavy metal song?
Discussion
Dear PH massive, you are my last chance. I have searched the web in vain and even contacted some heavy metal musos, but to no avail.
I desperately need to identify an 80's metal song. I had it on a compilation tape which i have since lost, and on the tape were Iron Maiden's The Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner and Van Halen's Why Cant This Be Love. Both of these songs may or may not have come out in the same year as the song in question, but i suspect they were out around the same time. I recall very few lyrics, and the song was very much in the style of Iron Maiden/Helloween, almost power metal, melodic and with a decent vocalist, high pitched at times. The song had lots of melodic guitar riffs, very much in the IRon Maiden vein. As I say, my recollection of any lyrics is sparse - something about rusty armour, and forces of light battling the forces of night. Also I am sure the lyrics 'on the road again..........' were often repeated. I think the song was about going to war, and I sometimes wonder whether it was a Christian metal band doing a symbolic song about religion etc.
Apologies for the pathetic clues, but any suggestions gratefully received.

I was going to say Helloween (possibly Gamma Ray?), but if there was a Jesus theme, Stryper would be the obvious suggestion?

Either that or Rage, as they could get very Maidenesque at times, and I can recall them being on a few compilations way back when.

probably not, but couple of the lyrics match, high pitched and about the right time.
Whitesnake - wings of the storm
Not exactly maidenesque either.

Was it definatley 80's?
Perhaps
Gun Barrel On The Road Again
Travelling around
All these unknown places
To rock the night
And living - living our dream
With you - the crowd
So many faces
To bang your heads
For hearing you scream
To say goodbye to all I love
And say "hallo" to all our friends
Who still believe in music
From now on - until the end
Feels so - good to - be back
On the road again
For all my - my life I - I need it
On the road again
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/g/gun+barrel/on+the+roa... ]
I've got no place to call my own
Wherever I go feels like home
Living just for the moment
Living just for the show
Going back on the highway
Of rock'n'roll
Feels so - good to - be back
On the road again
For all my - my life I - I need it
On the road again
Oh yeah-yeaha
Feels so - good to - be back
On the road again
For all my - my life I - I need it
On the road again
Feels so - good to - be back
On the road again
For all my - my life I and
I'll be back on the road
I'll be back on the road
Back on the highway
I'll be back
On the road again
Feels so good to be back
For all my life I need it

Thanks for the replies people,
Its def not Rage, Stryper, Cinderella, Manowar or Tourniquet as i know them well. I think i have also trawled the lyrics of Accept with no luck. I initially thought Queensryche were a def possibility but i am not overly familiar with them and to date have not been able to find a match
I'll chase up some of the lesser known leads in this thread and let you know how i get on.
Luckily i am a guitar player and i recall one or two of the riffs, although they wont be note perfect. May have to record it and put on YT
Cheers
Greg

Dear all, i have just recorded the only guitar riff i recall from the song - apols for the quality of sound/playing it was a quick one take job, but hopefully the melody might remind you of the song.

This riff was an interlude between verses IIRC and not the main solo. Played very much in the style of the riff interludes in IM's Long Distance Runner, and i am sure some double guitar harmonies were going on

Listened to that riff, and the first thing I thought was "hmm, pirate vibe". Could it be Running Wild perhaps?

ETA - Lyrics to "Riding the Storm"
Breaking the waves, a ride on the wild raging sea
Playing with fortune, oh, what a lust to be free
Flashlights and thunder, the prattering rain on the hull
From a stormy horison we get our course
The cry of freedom
Face in the wind, we're riding the storm
We'll stay our course whatever will come
Wandering souls in the sea of the damned
Death or glory, oh, oh, we're riding the storm
Cracks in the planks, the rigging moves upwards and
Staggering masts, the pounding splash of the prow
The wind in our sails, our flag flies high on the top
From a stormy horison we get our course
The cry of freedom
Face in the wind, we're riding the storm
We'll stay our course whatever will come
Wandering souls in the sea of the damned
Death or glory, oh, oh, we're riding the storm
That the sort of thing?
