Wall mounted bedroom TV

Yes, I am afraid it is another what TV thread. However, please bear with me.

I have power and sky cables ran to a hole in the wall my bed faces (c10 to 12 feet from the headboard to the wall) and would like a new TV, however there are so many types to choose from I don't know where to start.

Use: Soley Sky (SD), films, tv and sport.
Size: I had thought 42 to 50 inch, is this about right?(there is nothing else on the wall)
Style: Slim ish - I don't want it miles off the wall
Type: Open to suggestions, local currys seems to be full of plasma and LED, which is best here?
Brand: Obviously I am aware that Panasonic is the PH brand of choice but open to suggestions.
Budget: c£500 - £600 max as I will need to buy a bracket and would prefer to save my money for a better lounge TV later in the year.

Going to take my chances at the local Currys if anyone can offer any advice before I go, particulary around LED v Plasma v LCD

I'd suggest trying Richer Sounds and/or trying to get a price match in John Lewis if you have a store nearby as JL give a free 5 year warranty. Buy your bracket on Amazon, or maybe Argos rather than pay Currys prices. If you buy anything other than a Panasonic don't mention it on here (though I have 3 Sony TVs of various ages around the house and I'm perfectly happy with them), though I would suggest that 42" is a bit OTT for a bedroom unless you live in a mansion, but just IMHO.

Good shout on the bracket front, Argos came up trumps.

The only store in 60 miles is currys and as I had a rare day off I ended up buying http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-series-4-ps43... and thought I would buy a sound bar with the change.

However I think I may have been a bit too keen and wonder what you thought of this? Should I have got a full HD one?

I'm now thinking that when I get sky hd down stairs I will get them to run an hd cable to the bedroom too. Will the fact this is only he ready matter a great deal?

It is HD - but I think only 720p, not 1080p (1024 x 768 is 4:3 format I think). But I'm sure for the bedroom it will be fine!

Also, Sky only broadcasts in 1080i (interlaced) anyway so I'm sure you won't see much difference.

Got it set up this morning, even on a DVD (through my Xbox) any icons such as the sky play/pause or the selection icon on a DVD menu are jagged.

Is that normal for a tv of this type/price?

What output resolution have you set the XBox to? Might be worth trying a couple of different settings first: 720p as it's closest to the TV's native resolution, then 1080i. Even if the TV accepts 1080p it may not give the best result so you need to experiment. Also make sure you have the TV in the right screen mode: I don't have this make, but something like '16:9' rather than 'Zoom' or '14:9'. Basically you want the one that gives the correct shape to the content (so circles look round not oval) and that there isn't parts of the picture cropped off the edges (ie the picture is zoomed/stretched).
