email verification - after 8 years.....??

Any idea why after over 8 years on here have I been asked to verify my email address?

Also, I have to keep logging in even from the same computer within less than an hour?

I have had this once or twice in PH I presume it is something to do with PH server updates etc. The Mods should sort this out for you.

I've had this happen quite a few times. I regularly have to login again where it normally saves all the details

With regard to having to log in sometimes. That's to do with our different web servers. if you end up on a server that's restarted recently, sometimes you have to log in again. But as we have many servers and you're sent to one at random. It's nothing to worry about though.
