Having tried to get things in place prior to my trip to France, I have just tried to attach the magnetic GB sticker ( or not ) to the car.

Is the only alternative an unpleasant sticky thing or does one just assume that Les Flics will take for granted that a right hand drive AM is probably driven by a GB driver?

I used a sticky one, they come off easily enough, but now I have proper numberplates with the GB on it.

How about a couple of these on your number plates? Peel 'em off afterwards. No chance of damaging your paintwork.

Would be very surprised that our french flics would bother you about that,my french DB9 has regular uk reg plates (with my french number) with yellow rear instead of the compulsory white one and no problem in two years,just enjoy your trip.

Beware the magnetic GB plates! I used one on my MGC when going to Le Mans Classic 2 years ago and still haven't managed to get rid of the mark it left. Looks like a residue from a sticky plate but isn't. I know the paint on the C is soft but it isn't a scratch but I have tried Scratch X on it, polished it, clayed it and short of using a Brillo pad don't know what to do. OK 99.9% of people wouldn't notice it but it's still bugging me.

Same here. I have never bothered and on the occasions I have been stopped, it's never come up once.

Have you tried 3m Imperial hand glaze? The remedy for all paintwork evils.

I believe in Spain you also need either a passport or driving licence too - I certainly do when driving the parents' car in La Manga.
