Minno Shuttle Strapping Method

I'm having a bit of welding done on my car soon and tonight put the car into a minno shuttle trailer that I bought a while back but not needed to use yet. Previously I had a Radical which I used a BJ RS3 to tow with, strapping down in that was case of one end of the strap towards the rear of the trailer, one to the front with the strap behind the car wheel and the short separate length of strap round the front of the wheel.

The minno shuttle doesn't seem to work this way only having places to attach the straps behind the rear wheels and in front of the front wheels.I'm assuming I need to strap round the car wheel in some way and use the tension of the front and rear straps pulling against each other to stop the car moving, can anyone confirm if this is correct and if so how they place the straps round the car wheels.

Possibly a simple answer to this, I'd rather get it right than have the car moving about...

Yes, that's what I've got. Thinking about it instead of sleeping I think I can probably just strap over the chassis front and rear. Will look at doing that tomorrow.

don't strap the chassis as it bounces up and down on the suspension.
chock the front wheels on the fitted chocks and then strap the rear wheels to the trailer bed.

Thanks Dave, do you use straps as per the post above or just loop over the tyre somehow? Anyone got a piccie they could post of how they go about it? Using the straps above it doesn't really seem to work that well, I'd have to loop the front half of the strap backwards again which is against the direction of tension.

I used to just go through the front wheels from one side to the other and the same at the rear. I used a single rachet strap at each end.

if you are going to use that method, then one end of the strap needs to go forwards and one back otherwise it fails. So if your minno doesn't have suitable holes for that the you will have to do a through the wheel method. I'm surprised the trailer doesn't have suitable holes. Are there not holes in the bed in the middle?

Or maybe I have misunderstood the problem!

A couple of people I know with Minno Shuttles attach the winch strap to the towing eye to pull the car against the chocks and then use the normal straps on the rear wheels.

Hello Stu, trailer has sat in the garage ever since I dragged it back from yours. This method will work I think, provided I can get the straps through my wheels.

Hello BertBert - it's like a meeting of my previous PH correspondents today. If the front strap pulls the car forward and the rear backwards as Stu suggests then I'm good to go I reckon. It's a minno shuttle so possibly different to the open Minno that you had. There are a pair of holes each side to fit the strap hooks into at the rear of the car, both behind the rear wheels. Only a single hole each side at the front.

I hadn't looked at it at all since I bought the trailer, just assumed it would be the same as my RS3. Definitely no hook holes forward of the rear wheels and behind the fronts.

Thanks Shaun. Car is still mid build so no towing eye currently. Should I own up it's not actually a Caterham at this point I wonder...

Bloody hell you have a good memory. I've towed various cars on various minnos and shuttles like this over the years for several thousand miles without any prob's.

Using the winch and towing eye is a big no no as the car isn't actually strapped down. You need to secure the wheels but allow the body to float, using the towing eye this can't happen.

I use a Minno Shuttle for a Caterham. I use the straps that go around the wheel (similar to the ones that ADVSX posted the link to but without the girly red bit). I put one on each of the rear wheels and then it is fairly easy to put one on the front wheel on the non-exhaust side. The front one is a bit awkward but it makes it a lot easier if you make the forward hook of the front wheel strap captive in some way. Seems to be commonly accepted that strapping 3 wheels is perfectly adequate. Andy
